Starting today

Hi :) I'm giving atkins a try for the first time today. The only diet I've done is Weight Watchers, on and off for years, and I've lost some weight on it before but I can't get into it at the moment. I've only lost 4lb since January. I think I'm just bored of it so a change is needed. I'm very excited about starting atkins and I hope to lose about a stone in the first three weeks, but whatever will be will be! I'd like to be in the healthy BMI range by June (holiday) but I know the losses will slow down after a while. I think the main thing I'll miss is potatoes, I'm not a huge bread, pasta or rice eater. When can I start eating celeriac, during OWL?

Hi Hun welcome on board. Not sure about celeriac as I'm fairly new myself but the others on here are experts lol - they'll be along to help you soon :D

Hi & welcome!!

You can have celeriac in induction, just count the carbs in the normal way. x

Welcome!

I think you may be setting your expectations a bit high with 1 stone in 3 weeks, maybe you should consider breaking your goals down into more manageable chunks?

There is nothing more demotivating than setting a target that you then don't achieve!

It's ok, if I don't reach it I won't be upset. That's just my first goal and I don't mind however long it takes, it would just be nice as I have a christening in three weeks :) The atkins website say some people can lose 15lbs in the first 2 weeks, but I don't think I'll be anywhere near that.

Thanks for the welcomes everyone :D

Lol look at my weight loss - we have very similar stats - its taken me ages to lose 15lb!!

Oooh, very similar indeed. Same height, similar starting weight. Interesting to see. You know what they say though, if it takes longer to come off you're more likely to keep it off :)

well i hope so LOL!

Hi OM and welcome to our little forum. You can have celeriac on Induction, but I'd wait until OWL Personally love, stick to green leafy veggies as best you can.

Thanks Jim, that's what I thought. Stick to the basics for the first 2 weeks :)

You can stay on Induction for longer if you have a lot to lose Om, I did it for the maximum 6 months period.

I know, I might keep the grams down for longer but include some of the stuff you're not allowed in induction like stawberries and nuts :)

Hi OM and welcome!

It's funny how different people are on Atkins. Some lose superfast and others, pretty slowly but as you say the slower it comes off the more likely we are to keep it off.

We can't help being impatient tho!

It's a way of life, not a 'diet', and even when we slip we can always go back to the safety of low carbing. It feels such a pure way to eat, don't you think?

Hi OM
