Me and John live on the South Downs National Park so we've decided to walk the South Downs way on our week off in May. This involves hiking 10-15 miles each day carrying all our camping stuff and wild camping along the way - for a week.
I'm going to try and do it on the bars as shakes and soup won't be possible. I might have to add some food but if I can get away with it I won't. We'll have to see if it's possible to survive on bars alone :)

ohh this sounds like fun, the OH and i entend to do similar this summer,

so far we want to do the Dales, Mournes, Sperrins, Breacons, Peak district and lakes..... just as well we both love walking

That sounds fantastic. :D Can't see why it wouldn't be possible. (And less to carry!)

I am doing part of the Transpennine Trail this summer but I will be fully back to food by then.

Wow, that all sounds like great fun :) I don't know about you but I've always done my best walking on an empty stomach. When we go walking I can't eat until the evening or I slow right down.

i am exactly the same........ same thing happens if i stop for too long all my energy just fades

Why won't your soup be possible? Surely you can have a fire occasionally, or take a small stove with you to boil water?

My bro-in-law is currently flogging Kelly Kettles on ebay. Won't post a link but google them, they are only a bit bigger than a large mug to carry and will run off literally any fuel. Twigs, leaves, paper, anything. :)

Wow, kelly kettles look fantastic - just the thing for rough camping, we'll be out in the wilds for days. Never knew such a thing existed

will have to look up the kelly kettles, they sounds ace. i'm looking forward to trying these bars

if you are anything like me, I think you will lack in energy too much
Its a big ask-especially as you will be carrying tent, sleep ing bags etc(or are you B&B?)
but then you are a big girl ;) and will eat if you really slump I suppose

but then you are a big girl ;)

I'd rephrase that Maggie :) it sounds like an insult hahaha!
It should be ok, I can go for days with no food and feel fine unlike my sister who faints if she doesn't eat every two hours. She's very skinny but eats like a horse. I am guessing that my metabolism would keep me alive in adverse conditions longer.
Resisting the booze along the trail will be a tough one :)

i done a ten mile walk today and had no bother.. mind you i'm on 800cals a day

Now you know I don't mean it like that!
