Hi does anyone know if I peel and cut potatoes into chips, can I then freeze them so they're all ready to go if I've not got much time to prepare meals or just simply can't be bothered to stand making food!! Would I even be able to go a step further and boil them first so they'll be ready to go straight into the oven? I know this is propbably a stupid to question but before SW my cooking expertise didn't stretch much further than transferring food from freezer to oven :) xxx

im not sure if you can freeze them but i dont see why not, i doubt it would make you ill as its only veg. if you want 'proper' oven chips then mccains rustic skins on chips are only 10 syns for the who bag which is 1kg on green and EE

If you froze them, I expect they would need to be frozen without touching each other to prevent them all sticking together. If you have the room in your freezer to spread them all out, it is worth a try...

This is what I'd do - put some greaseproof paper on an oven tray and freeze them all separated on there, then once they're frozen solid you can pour them into a bag or a tupperware box.

They would freeze better if you parboil them first, then make sure you drain them thoroughly and then follow the freezing-on-atray instructions above. Best way to freeze spuds is cooking or partially cooking them. Might do some myself actually :)

thanks everyone for the tips i'll give it a whirl! also thanks abigail for the info on the rustic chips- they're definately on my shopping list! x

I've tried freezing them raw and parboiled and both times they went funny - kind of grey and horrible looking.I wouldn't do it again as I hate wasting food!

I parboiled them and roughed em up. Froze them separately and cooked them from frozen .They were fine but when I defrosted them by mistake and tried to cook them they were vile.
