CDC's Please Help

Surfhunny

Laugh in the face of food
Hi I'm sure these 2 questions have probably been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I hope someone can help because I'm at my wits end.

1. Is it possible to mess up your metabolism using CD?
Last year I was doing 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off because my boyfriend worked off shore, and I found it easy to stick to it when he was away and have treats when he was home. But since we split up in December I put a stone on and decided to go for it on CD properly, but I can't seem to shift more than 2lbs a week, no matter how perfectly I stick to it. Is my metabolism screwed??

2. Does the contraceptive pill have any affect on weight loss? The first time I did CD I had really good losses and wasn't on the pill, this time I am on the pill and my losses are very low, 1 and 2lbs a week (which would be great if I was doing WW or SW - but on SS it's soul destroying).

Like I say I really hope some one can answer these questions because I'm grasping at straws here.
Thanks xx

dont have the answers im afraid but i hope someone comes along to help. chin up surfhunny, you are doing great!

Thanks for replying Leeds, I can't believe this post has been on here for almost 24 hours and no CDC's have replied, even just to say that they don't know. I'd ask my own CDC except she's away at the moment. I really hope it's just that no CDC's have been on recently and looked at my post because I know it's a tricky topic but surely there must be someone on this whole forum that has some insight into one of the questions.

I have no idea either, sorry.

Hope someone answers soon for you chick x

Im not sure either hun, but hopefully there will be someone by soon, these boards are really busy at the moment, and some posts do get lost x I will ask for you x

Thanks x

I thought metabalism was just controlled by calorie intake at the current time? And fat errrm storage? Lol

I have no idea but would be interested too but having seen many maintainers on here with no problems it seems unlikey so? X

I'm not sure myself but I didn't think it would effect your diet. I know its been said that VLC diets slow down your metabolism in general, but your metabolism rate is dependant on your calorie intake anyway so it would slow on such little intake, but thats why the plans are there so you start eating slowly so your metabolism "adjusts". But back to your original question, I dont think your original diet messed it up this time. How much water are you drinking? Are you doing anything different? Maybe your weighing at different times?

Sorry if this is no help just thinking of suggestions.

No. All research from Cambridge, and general diet researchers for all over find no link. The metabolism restores to it's former glory (sort of) after 'normal' eating.

Mind you, whether it restores back to what it was will depend on loads of other factors. Obviously if you are slimmer, your metabolism is slower. As you get older your metabolism slows down. If you are less active this time round it's slower.

I have a client in a similar position. Did the diet 5 years ago under the hospital, put some of the weight back on and she's losing it at half the speed this time.

However, I have another client where the opposite is happening. Go figure. The body is weird. Weight loss is fickle. So frustrating for you!

The pill can cause problems especially with water retention. It might be worth seeing if you doctor can advise another pill with a different progestogen hormone. This can help

Obviously, this is still the quickest way to lose weight, so you'd be going spare on another diet. Okay..perhaps you are going spare anyway!

Dead frustrating eh :(

Here's a link that might help you Dieting and Metabolism

Weights exercise will help your metabolism. It does say you will lose less each time as the first time you did it you would have lost muscle too (I'm not sure if this applies to CD?). But its a myth that it permanently damages your metabolism.

You always lose some lean (muscle etc) on every diet. Can't be helped and in fact, you would look pretty weird if you kept it all.

With cambridge you lose less lean because of the protein levels and ketogenic factor

Yes thats true, I suppose you would lose it in proportion with your body.

Thanks Omega and KD. I'm glad to hear my metabolism is okay. As for the pill I'm going to stick with this one cos it took a while to find one that didn't turn me into a raving lunatic lol. I think I'm frustrated because my goal is so near and yet so far. I can't see myself doing any other diet because there's just too much room for inadvertent cheating by having a bit too much of this or that. I'll just keep plodding away with CD and hopefully I'll have a bigger loss eventually!
