Can't stop thinking about food!

Started my diet again for the 7th time this month!

I'm trying to keep out of the kitchen as I know if I go in there I will eat something!

Not even sure what diet I'm doing - I've confused myself so much over the years. So far today I've eaten a big bowl of branflakes with raisins for breakfast and a banana mid morning, plus 2 cups of coffee. That's not bad I suppose but my belly has been rumbling all morning. I've been trying to make it to lunch time because I want to limit the number of times I eat (once I start I seem to carry on all day!).

I don't know what normal eating is anymore but if I'm not on a particular plan I seem to lose control. What should I do?

Drink water! Loads of it. Apart from being good for you, it will help to make you feel fuller.

Also, keep yourself busy. If I start to think about food, I go and do something that needs done around the house...like clean out a cupboard or ironing or something.

Thanks that's good advice. I do tend to forget to drink water in the winter. I also have a tendancy to dwell on food/current diet so will definitely try and busy myself. I've got plenty of cupboards that need sorting out - I've got 3 children who all seem to think you just open the door and throw things in lol!

I think the first thing that you need to decide is what diet you would like to pursue. Even if it is just healthy eating rather than a strict ruled diet. That way you will know where you are and whether you are sticking to it or not.

The second thing is if you are truely hungry - EAT!! As long as you are eating the right things its okay, if you stop yourself eating when you're truely hungry your body will go into starvation and you'll be doing yourself no good.

Maybe have a browse around the other forums on here and see which one suits you best?

Good luck with your journey

Thanks Pesty I think you're right - I need to decide what diet I'm doing first and foremost. I also need to watch what I mindlessly put in my mouth - just cleared out the car after the school run and found 2 mini eggs on the backseat - automatically popped them in my mouth! how awful as I don't even know how long they've been there! lol. I'm sure I'll get there in the end.

That's a very hard habit to break!! I use to do it all the time, cooking my brother some chips and pinching one, etc.

Once you've decided then you will be able to obtain a much better strength of support as every plan varies as to what you can/cant eat.

Good luck with your journey, let us know what you decide!

Hi, thats what i do if im even thinking about cheating i do someting to take my mind off of it! doing some housework or finding a good book, doing an exercise dvd or going onto here!!:)

Hi Hazel,

Sounds simple but.... stop over thinking about the diet, or what diet you are on, dont eat that it's bad food, as you will continue to beat yourself up over it. Healthy eating may be the way to go for the moment. What about WW snacks or biscuits if you feel like something sweet. Water flavouring? Soups (home made)

Maybe WW would be a good option overall to help you eat reasonable size meals and snacks, getting you back into a normal pattern of eating.

Stop being hard on yourself as you are fighting your heart and mind at the same time and it will not get you anywhere. You can and will get there! A friend of mine on minis always says "one day at a time"

Not sure if my other half is as keen - I've been hogging the laptop all evening and haven't said a word to him! lol! did I mention I have obsessive tendancies as well! :banghead:

lol we sound so alike! all i can say is ditto ditto ditto
i cant remember how many times i've restarted dieting........and we're a similar weight and height...............i had porridge and raisins for brekkie........and ditto i'm on the laptop today in an effort to stay away from the kitchen

Hi Alex I've just drank a bottle of wine and now I'm really struggling to stay out of the kitchen! Somehow I always seem to think that drink doesn't count! Had been doing really well up to that point! Oh well diet starts again tomorrow x

Drinking doesn't bother me, I rarely drink. I sometimes wish I did drink becuase then that would be some 'easy cals' to cut from my daily consumption. lol!

i ended up having some of the OH's take away last night - 2 slices of pizza ans 2 slices of garlic bread. argh! its so frustrating!

today I am trying to stall my breakfast until i am truely hungry (ie stomach rumbling) and the same with lunch and dinner.......and hopefully try to have a snacking free day
