Some advice please :)

Hi all,

I'm on day 5 of CD and yesterday I weighed myself and I had lost 7lbs. The thing is I have just weighed myself again and it seems to have gone up. I feel a bit disheartened because I have heard of 17lb weight losses in week 1 and I was hoping for similar results. I currently weigh 12 and a half stone so perhaps it is because I don't weigh a bit more?

Also I have been trying to drink lots of water but I have never been a massive water drinker and I am barely managing a litre :( could this have something to do with the speed of the weight loss? Does anyone have any tips that could help to encourage me to drink more water? I know that there are fruit flavours by my CDC mentioned that this could take me out of ketosis? The only other thing I can think is that I have used lo-salt on my soup yesterday and today for flavour and also quite a lot of pepper because it tastes so bland to me.

Any advice would be great, am feeling a bit low because I have worked hard and stuck to the diet despite the fact I could kill for a pizza right now!

Hiya - DONT PANIC !!!

it's probably just the water....you'll weigh heavier in the evening than first thing in the morning...;)

DON'T CHEAT whatever you do.....you cannot fail to lose weight on CD (IF YOU STICK TO IT !) - if you must weigh yourself every day, do it in the morning.....before all the water !!! My weight can fluctuate by 2 - 4 lbs from morning to evening depending how much I have drunk...it's not fat - just water !!!

and YES - some people may lose 17lbs in the first week... BUT we're all different.....SEVEN PONDS is FABBY :D try not to compare yourself with others.....the weight will come off - PROMISE !!

dont weigh yourself at different times of day. your weight can vary massively in a few hours, best to weigh fuirst thing in the morning.

i dont think you will acheive a 17lb loss as you have little to lose, my CDc estimated i would lose half a stone to a stone in the first week, i lost 10lb. apparently those with larger amounts to lose will lose more in the first week than those with little to lose.

you do need to try and up your water intake. 1litre isnt enough, get a couple of water bottles, and try and keep refilling them during the day.
 
Sorry but you really do need to drink at least 2 1/2 litres a day minimum.
Weight issue did you weigh first thing in the morning, because it will go up during the day.
Hopefully a CDC will pop along shortly to answer all your questions.
But try to stay with it, it will be worth it in the end.

Yes barley a litre is not enough...you really must try to drink more......!
The weight difference could be for a number of reasons, did you weigh same time of the day....? Is it nearly TOTM ...?
 
7lb loss in 5 days is excellant btw, so try not to stress about it.

Hi and well done on reaching day five the hardest part is over, pepper is fine but i dont know about salt, but i would have thought the lo stuff would be ok, but i am sure a councillor will answer this for you, water is the key to this diet the saying is drink to shrink, try sparkling water and there are a couple of flavoured water you can have too, it took me a couple of weeks to get used to drinking the water so stick with it. Your weight will be different at all times of the day so please dont get dishearted your councillors scales are the important ones and i expect you will be surprised how much you have lost.

You can expect to lose on average a stone a month, some people will lose more if they have more to lose in the first place, hope this helps a little. You are doing great, stay strong and look forward to reading how much you have lost.
 
Thank you for all your responses :) I'll try and make sure I get another litre before bed! I think it's just getting into the habit of drinking throughout the day. Lucky we are allowed water in the classroom at school (I'm a teacher) so I will try and keep a bottle with me all the time from tomorrow.

Do you think the salt will cause me to bloat out of interest?

Salt can help you retain water which is no good!!

You REEEEEEEEEEALLY need to get that water up to the minimum if not more!!

If you don't drink you can really harm yourself as the ketones aren't being removed, it also helps with hunger and things!!

You can drink peppermint tea - that'll help with the water count (you can also have normal tea and coffee without milk, but since it has caffine in it it doesn't count to your water). The flavours should be ok, although people very sensitive to ketosis can be affected.

Good luck....you're doing fine. It can be done, my mum is also a teacher and she does CD.

DO NOT WEIGH YOURSELF. Look what it's doing to you? What is the point? Let your CDC weigh you and go by those scales.
 
Ditto what the others said, but anyway...7lbs is great for day 5! I lost 8lbs my first week. The last time I did CD, I only lost 3.5lbs at the first weighin.

I really think that a lot has got to do with how much rubbish you ate before you started the diet. The last time I ssed, I was eating an average amount of calories and carbs for a slimmer person....hence a smaller glycogen store to lose.

Get guzzling that water though and you never know..you may well drop a couple more pounds by weigh day :)
 
I think if yu weigh in the 12's at the start, a loss of 17lbs is wholly unrealistic (if you were 25 stone maybe)! I started at 15.1 and only lost 6lbs in week one and I stuck to the rules 100% and drank 4litres of water a day. Some lose more, some less, but if you 'only' lose 7lbs in total in week one you should be happy - that is half a stone! Alot of the weight in week one is water anyway (that is bonded to the glycogen in your liver), so more isn't necessarily more iykwim...
Be proud of what you have achieved already and believe in the science behind the diet, you can't not lose fat if you stick to it!
