Hi Guys,

I have been a keen reader of the thread for the past month or so and think you are all doing so well, so congrats on that !!:)

Anyway I thought i would start up my own thread as i really need to keep motivated. Im a 29 year old guy from Leeds, started Xenical on 4th January, my start weight was 16st 8lb, after my first month i had lost 14lb and was down to 15st 9lb and was really really happy. I had tried so many diets in the past and nothing worked for me.

My second weigh in 6th March i had lost another 5lb, i was fairly disapointed as i was really hoping to keep up the big weight loss but after reading here it appears we all lose lots in our first month.

Its now over 2 weeks since my last weigh in and i have only lost about 2lb and my motivation is slipping so thought the best way to build my motivation was to start a thread on here so a big hello to you all !!

I have started going to the gym, not as much as I should but its a step forward. Im going to try and go at least 3 times a week because in my job all i do is sit on my bum all day.

My initial aim was to get down to 13 stone by 7th May as im going on holiday and i want to feel more confident this year as i normally hate taking my top off to go swimming, sunbathing etc. I dont think i will be able to make 13st now as i would mean me losing 2 stone in less than 2 months but i would be really happy now with 14st and then once i have come back from my hols try and lose the rest.

Sorry for the big long essay lol :p

Thanks Lise and well done to you too.

I really hope i do get down to my ideal weight i havent weighed 13st since i was about 13 lol.

I need to try and cut out the bread thats the killer for me

Helloooo, and welcome :)
First of all well done on your weight loss so far, you've done fantastically well :D And it sounds like your holiday target seems realistic, so there's no reason why you shouldn't be 14st before you go away!
You're right though, it's difficult when you lose a lot of weight in the first month, and then things dwindle a bit and the weight loss slows down. It's at that point that you realise that there are no quick fixes, and that this is a marathon rather than a sprint!
The trick is to get through that phase, knuckle down and get things moving again (I think I've just hit the 'wall' now, after a good initial loss, I've hardly lost anything this month!).

Could you maybe try having a 'week one' week? I mean the type of 100% dedicated week you have when you first start a diet, when you're completely focussed on the goal, you weigh and measure everything and don't let things creep in.
I find that after the first week, I start guessing at my calories, start having the odd 'treat' and stop exercising as much, so it does help to go back to basics again and thing about exactly what I'm eating/drinking.

Either that, or you could try something new to shake things up a bit. Maybe try a few different recipes, or buy different things when you go shopping. This might give your body a bit of a wake up call, and might stop you from getting bored with the food you're eating.

That's all I can think of really...other than keep doing what you're doing, and stay focussed on how confident you'll feel on your holiday, and in general, when you've acheived your goals :D

Hi and welcome echoboy!!

I also have a job where I sit on my bum all day but I go for a walk most evenings.

You could try that if you can't make the gym, I'm averaging about 35-40 mins 5-7 days a week.

thanks for that girls, I will definately try some new recipies, im getting a bit sick of having beans on toast and jacket potatoes to be honest and i think i will definately have to try doing a week one week again because as you say Alex you do tend to slip and let some of the "forbidden" foods back into your reigime.

I might try going for a walk, i find going for a walk a bit of a pain though because i live in the city centre and you end up waiting to cross the road more than you do walking lol. Anyway im off to the gym now I really want to be sub 15st by the weekend.

I will keep you posted :D

Hi, Echoboy and welcome. As the others have said, it can be disheartening to lose big in your first month or so and then only to lose in dribs and drabs of 1 or 2 pounds per week. We have all been there, this bump is hard to get over but once you do you'll realise that this is how it is going to have to be, there is no quick fix. How long did our weight take to go on? That didn't happen overnight either and neither will taking it off. I find it easier to look at very small, realistic goals rather than looking at the big picture, I likened it recently to climbing a mountain. If you stood at the bottom and saw how far it was to the top you would never start climbing, it looks too daunting, but if you concentrate on getting to the next "ledge" instead it seems much more do-able. I have at least another 2-3 stone to lose and when I think of it like that I immediately feel it dragging me down. Easier to say 2 pounds a week, or 7 a month, or under 200 by x date or whatever. We CAN do this, we WILL do this, and how much better are we going to feel about ourselves on those holidays/nights out etc then?
Sorry, I seem to have rambled on a little longer than planned there but you get the idea. Good luck!

You`ll get there hun, Even if it just takes a little longer :D x

hellllo!

welcome to the xen family!

I know it may not be what u wanna hear but the slower you loose the easier it is to maintain! Your bound to have a big loss in the first month cos a lot of it is fluid but when you get a few weeks into it your loosing actual fat which is what u wanna do! I tend not to set targets that are unreasonable as i beat my self up and make things worse as im just setting my self up to fail! Im not say you are gunna do the same.

Saying u wanna be 13st by May means u would have to loose over 5lbs a week which would be a fab achivement but its not something i could maintain! I prefer to work in half stones its much more managable an means i get less disapointment! I think 14 st is much more achievable!

Good luck hun! we'll be here all the way to support ya!

love katie!

Ps my bum is shaped like an office chair i in one so much haha
