Flight Problem??

Still Climbing That Hill!
Hi everyone,

At the weekend my OH booked my mum a flight from Glasgow to London with ryanair - online, now thing is my mums official first name is Margaret it's on her Birth certificate/passport etc, but my mum is know locally as Jean & to anyone that knows her personally. it's all to do with her mum and dad disagreeing what to call her, so problem is OH booked for her to travel under Jean Campbell and not her official name (Margaret Campbell), to change the name is going to cost £70 :eek: it would be cheaper just to book her another flight!! do you think if she turned up on the day and played dumb ie saying it was her son in law that booked the flight and explained the situation that they would allow her to travel? or do you think it would be wiser just to book another flight? we are not really sure what to do for the best here.

Hope anyone who reads this understands it all, as im sure i could've explained it better if i had more more time.

Thanks

It shouldn't matter surely - she is not leaving the country so does not need to show her passport and lots of celebs book under assumed names. Just get her to show up and give the name it is booked under.

Even if she doesn't show her passport she's going to need some form of ID.

To be honest, I don't think they'd let her travel. For all they know this could be a completely different person.

Suppose you could get to check in as early as you can, then if they say no you can hop on over and try and change it. Expensive though.

xx

:sigh: knowing the reputaion of Ryanair I would say book another flight they are notorious for turning people away without the proper id. I think thats how they make their money and can sell the flights so cheap. But if ur unsure ring them and see what they say. You might get a nice ground hostess on the day or you could get a stickler for the rules but its a chance not really taking I think

If her middle name is Jean, and its on driving licence etc, then she should be fine. But if not, best to change. Its worth calling the reservations office again - explain again - if it was only just booked then they might take pity!

(I knew my previous life as a travel agent would come back and be useful :) )

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the replys to be honest i think i will have to book another flight for her im getting nowhere online unless i pay £70 for a name change! when we phone the number they give you on the website it gives you another number to phone which is £1 per minute:eek::eek::eek: no wonder these companies make money!!!! It's only Margaret that's on her official documents Jean isn't on them them at all, oh well back on to book another flight only i will book this time lol.

Thanks again.

Is it cheaper to buy a new flight or a name change? When I flew from Newcastle to Bristol last month 2 staff looked closely at all the passports so it's not worth taking the risk. But very annoying for you

Hi Irene,

it would be cheaper to buy a new flight, a name change is going to cost £70!! and the flight is around £40, we have relatives flying over from Ireland at the weekend with Ryanair so they are going to make enquiries, but to be honest i think we will have to book another flight.

Thanks & take care.
