possible returner- do you learn to stomach it...

colly strings

ooh la la
hi all.

i tried cd before but didn't last very long ( a week or so ) - i found that the texture of the shakes and soup was starting to make me feel sick and the thought of another one was making me gag!

i really, really want to lose weight this year. i still have some packs left over (prob about 4 days worth) so might give those a bash before committing to this.

also how much does it cost nowadays? i think i get more packs as i am tall, but this might be me making things up.

also, for those with partners who are not on cd and are eating normally, how do you cope?

thanks xx

Hi
I'd actually suggest you go to see your CDC before 'trying again' with your leftover packs. Get your head in the right place and really commit to it, if you really want to do it. I've done what you suggest and its never wholly successful, tbh. Ask if you can try bars, porridge and tetras if the soup/shakes make you feel sick.

My top tip re shakes is make them with LARGE quantities of water. I make them up to 600 or even 800ml. Double bonus - they keep you filled up for longer, and don't taste so rank as they're very dilute. The texture of them made up as a thick shake is vile, I agree.

Re partners not doing CD; I am lucky as my husband is very understanding. For my first week, he ate only cold food or he went out so there was nothing to tempt me, not even the smell of it. He gets home before me so he cooks for himself and deals with all the shopping etc. I know I'm really lucky here. When I was fully 100% SS and properly in ketosis I found I could cook for him, and enjoyed doing so, just not every night. I'd make up a big chilli and a pasta bake or something at the weekend and he'd have portions of that through the week. Luckily he is not a foodie and doesn't care what he eats!

best of luck
Lx

yeah i sort of thought that after posting- i could keep the packs as "spares" so if i find i don't like a flavour i'm not stuck for another pack- that was where i went wrong before. have emailed my local cdc. i have tried the porridge and i loooved it! thanks for your reply. i think i need the discipline of the cd as i have been doing ww and i just cheat non stop!! x

Hi there.

Flavours do differ and even how you make them up makes a difference too. Add ice to blend your shakes, mix them too.. Vanilla is nice with choc or adding coffee to the mixture too before blending. I prefer the mint choc one really, but also like the bars for after a small meal in the eve. Makes you feel you have a treat ;).

Good luck with what you decide anyway.

I agree about how you make up the packs. I like to make my choc mint shake in to muffins, eat your tetra frozen like an ice cream, make crisps out of your soups. Check out the Recipe sticky - there's loads of ways round getting the packs down. Perhaps you could experiment with your leftovers before trying again?

Hi Tinley.. these are ok to do if you have spare ones as the nutrients goes out of them if cooked or frozen.. or so I've been told. Could just eat a muffin though ;).. but will resist. I do put my bars into the freezer for 10 mins just to chill before eating and nibble on it rather then chucking it down, lol.. It makes me think I have a mars bar!! Crazy what our minds do isn't it!! xx

I always... always have my shakes in a full pint glass of water with loads of ice and drink it through a straw i find it makes a huge difference but overall i do find they get easier to stomach. my best mate has fairly recently started and straight away started saying she hated the products but she as started with straws and ice and is beginning to like ones she previously hated. It does get better and it isnt meant to be heaven, the products are just to give us our needed vits and minerals.

Yes, you're right, they do lose some nutrients when cooked, but I thought the discussion was about spares so my suggestions were aimed at those. Sorry if you misunderstood me

There is a thread on here entitled Top 3 which also has a lot of ideas for livening up the packs - might be worth a squizz!

I dont often have any normal shakes or soups , I tend to have the porridge , a bar and a mousse every day ( oo the vanilla one made with 1/2 tsp of coffee into a yummy mousse .. just like tiramasu ..) I am not keen on the texture of the soups and the shakes just dont fill me , but I do think you can do this diet without them , find things you like and stick to them :)

thanks all- am going to go for it i think. was window shopping with a (slim!!) friend today and my heart just sinks knowing none of it will fit me. i want this and i want it badly. i know the shakes etc aren't meant to be a taste sensation, i just hope i can keep 'em down!

I have the same issues wit the soups and shakes, never have them now

First week - 4 Choc Tetras
Second Week - 3 Choc Tetras, 1 Mousse
Week 3 onwards - 2 Choc Tetras, 1 Mousse, 1 Bar

Never have to touch shakes or soups

thanks a lot big h and well done on your weight loss- it's inspirational to me as someone of a similar height and similar amount of weight to lose.

Ditto to making up powder shakes with ice, lots of water and drinking through a straw. I only really like the chocolate mint powder shakes, the rest of my 'meals' are chocolate and strawberry tetras and bars. It's hard to know what to get though when you are a novice to the plan - I have never tried a soup, nor do I intend to, the thought of it makes me gag!

Aint it funny how we all differ!!

I cant have my shakes any thicker than 250ml!!! or they just taste like watery nothingness!

Like people have said though, you'll find a way to take your packs eventually. Your tastes will also change along the line.

Good luck :) x

I am a guy though!!

I don't believe that having a Bar or a mouse or even one of each a day can affect your weight loss, but I may be wrong and I think everybody should do what works for them. But we are talking about an additional 50 calories per day if you have a Mouse and a bar instead of 2 Tetras for example, over the period of the diet, I don't believe that can have any adverse effect. I've lost 262 pounds doing this (although I am only 100 pounds lighter, swhich tells you something about my ups and dowsn) lol

your gender doesn't mean you can't be an inspiration! ;) you've done really well and i hope i can do it too!

I meant ('Im a guy') that we do lose quicker - dunno why

Good luck to you x
