I am fed up and annoyed!

Yasmine

One last chance
I have been following slimming world for about 9 weeks or so and I have done nothing but gain weight .

One week I lost 3lbs, and then I just kept gaining after that even though I was following the plan 100%. I am following Original days because I gain weight on extra easy and green days. But the weight is not comming off!

Why!?

Have you written a food diary for you consultant to view? One lady in our class did, and bless her when it was worked out she was having about 50syns a day extra! This was because she wasn't sure on hex's was eating her kids left over chicken nuggets, licking spoon when making cakes, not measuring her milk, all bran etc. I know this might not apply to you, but maybe something to think of?

Hope things change at your next WI hun! Why don't you give your consultant a ring? Has she/he commented on your gain? x

I make sure I measure everything that needs to be measured, if anything I have less than what it says I should have.

I don't get it, I really don't :(

If I remember rightly, you were on Lipotrim before you started SW, weren't you?

I have a similar problem in that I switched from Cambridge to SW - and in fact, the last time I tried SW, what you say is happening to you happened to me - I too did the diet 100%, lost 5 pounds the first week then steadily regained it all over the next few weeks, despite following SW to the letter.

It's painful, but somehow, you just need to keep the faith that the diet will start working for you. That's what I'm telling myself, anyway. I tried going back to doing Cambridge but found I just couldn't stick to it any more and kept falling off the wagon.

I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather be on a diet where I can eat plenty and still slowly (all right, painfully slowly ) have the weight come off, than torture myself through another round of Cambridge.

I don't know how many ex-VLCDers there are around (that's Very Low Calorie Diets for those who don't know, like Lighterlife, Cambridge and Lipotrim) but I know there must be some.

I think my poor body needs to trust that I'm going to keep feeding it before it dares let go of any fat, LOL. I can't blame it for clinging on, just in case I start starving it again. :)

Incidentally, I'd never knock VLCDs - when you're very overweight, as I was (I was almost 18 stones), it feels like a miracle to start losing weight so easily. But the first shot at a VLCD is the golden one - if you fall off the wagon, it's at least twice as hard to climb back aboard as it is to get back to an eating plan like SW or WW. I finally had to accept that I was finding it nigh on impossible to stick to Cambridge and that I was messing up my metabolism big time by being on it one day and off the next...

I'm hoping that the extra exercise I'm doing (now I've got enough calories on board to do it) will help shift things in the right direction - I'm currently in training for a 10 mile Midnight Walk for Sue Ryder Care on 1 May.

But even if all that happens for a while is that I stay at more or less the same weight, I can live with that. I'm not going to give up easily this time - and trust that the plan will starting working as it should, once my body's forgiven me for putting it on a VLCD. :)

Are you able to up your exercise levels at all?

Perhaps you are not eating enough?
You may need to fill up on superfree foods, have your syns and HEXs.
Good luck. It does work!

If you're not having a full hex you need to syn it. Make sure if you are having hex's you need the full amount stated.

Um...

That's not actually true. For some reason, some consultants say this - but Head Office have never said this is the case. In fact, the FAQs quite clearly state that you don't even have to have your HEXs at all, just that it's advisable to have them for good health.

{runs away and hides :)}

If you are having less than the required measured amount Hun, especially for things like your Healthy Extras, then it will be come synned and not a Healthy Extra. Make sure you are having the right quantity.

After 9 weeks tbh I would think you should start to lose weight again - have you spoken to your GP about it? have you spoke to your consultant as well? What have they suggested?

I hope you stick to it, because even if you are not losing atm - following SW is a healthy eating plan that has all the ingrediants for a healthy diet!

Good luck - x

That's right, Fleur. HEXs are there to ensure you have a balanced and healthy diet. If you choose to not have the full amount it will still be a HEX, and won't become a syn, but won't be quite as good for your health.

Thanks Deb. :)

Yasmine, I'm still feeling your pain hun, though maybe not so acutely as you, as I have at least lost 4 pounds since I started on SW four weeks ago. But I've stayed the same for the last two weeks now :sigh: (and the week before that I gained a pound back after losing 5 pounds in the first week, despite doing 100% red days and staying within my Syns).

I'm still firmly of the belief though that I will start to lose weight in the next week or six. :) It's funny, but I do feel thinner (even though according the scales, I'm not). My tummy feels a bit less jelly like. It occurs to me that I may well be losing fat, but that it's just not showing up on the scales yet cos I'm retaining water.

Hang in there hun :hug99:

I am ex vlcd too - and only lose if I am absolutely 100% AND eating lots of free veg. If I eat less, I dont lose weight, its weird, maybe it is an ex vlcd thing?? I manage to stick to LT for 14 weeks and lost 36lbs, although I put the darn lot back on after a spinal op that left me bed ridden and in a wheel chair for weeks! (back on my feet now thankfully)

I love the SW diet, especially extra easy. although I have struggled the past few weeks as my mum is ill in hosp, following a stroke :(

I am sure that as soon as I get back on track, I will feel heathier and start slimming again.

in the meantime, get your thyroid level checked too, do you feel cold a lot of the time, tired or low mood? if so - could be your thyroid. taking kelp supplements can help that.

you also dont have a lot to lose weight wise, you are close to a healthy weight already, so you may need to increase exercise. post your diary for a couple of weeks on here so we can advise further, I suspect, as others have mentioned, that you are not eating enough.

xx
