homemade burgers=yum!

Naughty Fridge Picker
The kids helped make the burgers today.

I followed brit mums ultimate burger recipe, this is the 2nd time I have made them. We found with 500g of extra lean mince we can just about get 10 burgers out of that, one in the roll and one served on the side. I seasoned mine with Oregano, marjoram, basil and garlic salt with 4 cloves of garlic.

My youngest made the salad, and my oldest helped make the burgers. It was a real team effort! The kids loved them.

We really love this recipe, it feels like your being naughty and your not at all!

Yum Yum! :D:D:D

I made some last week, they're great aren't they? I put in a bbq shotz sachet into the mince too which made them really tasty. I had them with sweet potato chips too, was so filling and as you said they feel naughty but they're not!

Yeah they are very very filling, the first time we did it, we did two rolls and I thought I was going to pop, so we did one roll with all the gubbins in like in her recipe and then put the second burger on the side with the salad. I'll remember the bbq seasoning for next time, thats a jolly gd idea.

We had these for the first time tonight as well, the kids had rolls but I resisted....they said both the burgers and the sw chips I did with it were the best they ever tasted...and these are teenagers who normally want mcdonalds all the time...their faces were a picture when I told them it was a sw recipe!

Home made burgers is one of our favourite family dinners. We have 2 burgers each, one in a roll and one on the side, often topped with bacon and cheese and a huge salad. A serving of home made hamburger relish finishes them off a treat.

So much nicer than any burger bar and DD agrees, so that's a winner!

Thumbs up for home made burgers from me too.

Well I used a tesco healthy eating oatbran roll which is a HeB and bought the healthy eating cheese chedder slices which are 25g each slice, as I dont like processed cheese, so had that as a HeA, so it is doable without undoing your days syns :) I just plan ahead and syn my skimmed milk and dont have a HeB fro brekkie or lunch. Or you could have it on a red day and have two HeB's :)

I do love SW chips! I did them yesterday as skinned wedges with piri piri spices YUM!

hey Jay how do you make ur relish?

I make my relish with tons of baby cherry tomatoes, onion, basil, chilli, sugar, white wine vinegar. I make several jars in the summer when I have a glut of tomatoes and it lasts us all year.

I also make some jars without chilli for those who don't like it so hot.

It is synned, I say a syn a teaspoon (for the sugar). It's maybe less but I like to err on the side of caution!!

I remember the first time i made these, I also followed BritMums recipe, only thing was with all the salad and bits in, I couldn't actually fit the burger in my mouth! I'll be rolling out the mixture and using a cookie cutter next time :p xx

LOL we have the very same problem!! I nealry popped my jaw lol

Plus the 1st time I made them, we made two rolls and we had it on a red day the 1st time and I seriously could not manage the second one, my eyes were defo bigger than my belly! lol

So this time I did an EE day, had one roll and one on the side and had cous cous with the salad instead, and that was still very filling.

Kudos to Brit mum :D

Ok I am not good at things like chutneys, etc as have never made them, but how do you put that all together, and could u use artificial sweetners instead perhaps? :)

I do have a pickles and preserves book and have the recipe somewhere. I'll look it up if you want it quantities etc. You basically cook it all slowly in a large heavy pan (or preserving pan) then pour into sterilised jars and store.
I haven't made them with sweetener, I don't see why you couldn't but I'm not a fan of it so I'd rather not if I can help it.

That would be fabulous!, I am a big fan of pickles and such, for putting on top of meat when you cook it, my mum makes one with apricots and ginger thats lush on top of pork loins YUM lol :D

Here it is...

1kg chopped onions (I do this in a food processor to save tears!)
1 fresh green chilli, deseeded if reqd, and chopped
4 plump garlic cloves
1 tbsp celery seed
400ml cider vinegar
1kg cherry tomatoes, cut in quarters if large
250g white granulated sugar
good handful of chopped fresh basil

1. Put the onions, chilli and garlic in a preserving pan. Add the celery seed and vinegar and bring the mixture to the boil. Simmer for 15-20 mins until most of the liquid has evaporated.

2. Add the tomatoes. Stir in the sugar and return to the boil. Simmer the relish over a moderate heat for 30 mins or until the tomatoes soften and the relish thickens.

3. Remove from the heat and stir in the chopped basil.

4. Pot the relish into hot sterilised jars, cover with vinegar proof seals and label.

This makes 4lb jars of relish and keeps for 6-9 months.

I love burgers, especially in the summer at a BBQ. I usually put 1/2 a babybel light in the middle (cut so you have 2 discs) which makes it extra yummy. The good thing about the cheese in the middle is that you also know when the burger is cooked fully through as it starts to bubble out.

I also like to make lamb burgers with feta in the middle too.

I made the ultimate burgers from brit mum last week - they were AMAZING!!!!

I'd recommend them to anyone that hasnt had them before! And they will be perfect for summer bbqs with a big salad and Ainsley cous cous :)

xx

i tried searching for the recipe but couldn't find it! can anyone link me to the thread? i'd love to try these! what a treat!
