Hello all. I've been lurking most of this week, reading for inspiration and tips and finally plucked up courage to introduce myself.

At the age of 52, I've found myself needing to reduce my weight drastically for the second time in my life.

The last time I needed to lose more than a bit was in 2000 after I gave up smoking. I managed to lose 40 ( from 187lb to 147lb) just by going to the gym and watching what I ate. I know that at 5' 5" 147lb is hardly size zero, but although my target was 140lb, 147 suited me fine. I could wear whatever I wanted without worrying; I could run, I could ride my bike and I could eat more or less whatever I wanted without gaining more than a lb or 2.

But this time it's serious!

For the last 2 years, bad health meant that my activity levels were cut drastically and my has weight ballooned - up as far as 212 this January  However, now my health is much better, I feel like I've been given a chance and I'm going to seize it with both hands. I'm making a concerted effort to rid myself of the jelly belly, the muffin top that's so large it's family sized; the thunder thighs, the 5 chins and more importantly, these absolutely huuuuuuge boobs.

I'm going to be heading over to the 'low carb' board, which I guess will be the nearest to my eating plan. Once I'm there, I shall pull up a seat, park my ample bottom and make myself at home (I will be declining offers or cookies or doughnuts though).
