Beef pie help

Hullo,

Am planning to make some sort of beef and mushroom pie tonight, with sliced potatoes on top.

What would you use to make the gravy? Beef Bovril? Will it need thickening?

Thanks,
Trinity x

I would go for some beef stock (maybe Oxo), maybe some tinned tomatoes without the juice and some frozen veg - blend it all together. Not sure how i would work out - but that is probably what I would try.

I use a kallo vegetable stock cube and add bovril as well to make it beefy. I would also add tinned tomatoes and slow cook the beef and mushrooms in the oven for several hours iin a covered casserole dish. when cooked take the lid off and boil quite a while on the hob, this will reduce the liquid down to a thicker consistancy without having to add anything like cornflour to make it thicker.

TBH i use a few gravy granules if its too thin as this will thicken it up - only do this if you dont mind using syns - 1 syn for 4 level tbspn as long as you add no fat or anything :)

hope this helps
