Ive been running for 2-3 weeks and today I was able to jog 2miles non stop:eek::cool:. So on a mad whim I have decided to enter the Wollaton 10k (6.2miles) race in June. The men in white coats are coming to take me away soon, lol!

Well done:0clapper:

At the rate you are going, by June you will be well able for it for the 10k:)

Go for it. I've done a couple now and it is doable. Nt like silly marathons. They show each km. And I swear they are not uniform, the first coupl are really quick then they slow down, but oddly sped up again! It is fun, and such a sense of achievement. Well done, and go for it!

I am looking forward to it. Ive looked on the net for 10k training plans and it looks like its going to be 12-13 weeks training. So, im going to use the rest of Febuary to build my endurance and speed up abit and then start training in March. Oooo i am excited now!

Well done, and good luck to you.

Good on you! Good luck too xxx

Well Done!!!

I've done quite a few 10km races and a half marathon....but trust me your first 10km race is very very special.

I was in an emotional state when I ran the first 10km...but the half marathon.....oh wow....they had to mop away the tears....LOL

Dynamick, To be honest the panic is slightly setting in now, lol! I am slow jogging 2miles in 30mins and my 10k is 12th June, is it possible? I would love to be able to jog all the way, do you think my fitness will be there by then?

I've every confidence in your fitness being there.....if you lived near Sheffield I'd go jogging with you and even run the 10km with you to make sure you paced yourself right.

What you've got to remember is....don't set any time goals for your first 10km run...just get round, then for your next one - you've got something to beat.

If I can help - drop me a message and I'll do anything I can to give you advice etc.

Cheers Dynamick, aiming to run the whole 10k was abit overenthusiastic for me, I think I got caught up in the moment, lol. I have been jogging everyday but I am now going to cut that down to 3 days a week and cycle the days I dont jog. On Tuesdays I am doing a gentle 2mile jog, then on thurs I am going to work on increasing my speed over 2 miles. At the mo im averaging a 14-15min mile. Then on sun im going to work on distance, keeping a steady pace but increasing it by, I dont know really, maybe 1/2 mile? Does this sound ok? Do you think its enough to be able to walkhalf and jog half of the 10k. I would be very happy with that.

I'd say you've pretty much got it covered there jodidi - you're actually doing (whether you know it or not) a variation of "fartlek training" (cool name and always gets a giggle!):D

If you click here fartlek is explained a bit better and it's a great tool for increasing speed and endurance/stamina.

As for walking half and jogging half of the 10km......you do whatever you feel comfortable with on your first one.

I'm just coming back from an elbow operation and a pretty serious knee injury and did my first road running over the weekend for a long time....I took it nice and steady and ran 4 miles in about 48 minutes - we all have our pace and we all know how much our bodies can take. I train 2 - 3 hours a day in the gym 4 or 5 times a week....so I'm at a pretty high fitness level at the moment....just hope my knee holds together for the Sheffield Half Marathon!!!

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!!!.... but also don't be afraid to go to your limits every now and then....you'd be suprised what you can achieve.

If I can help with any other hints and tips.....ask away :)

Good luck!!!
