Help/Motivation

Hi all

I have tried the Cambridge diet a few times now and failed miserably on most occasions. The first time I did the diet I lost a lot of weight and I really want, and need, to do that again. I am around 16 stone at the moment and really want to be at 10 stone by the end of July. I plan to start Monday and really go for it but wondered if anyone could help with the following:
- Is it possible to lose 6 stone in 5 months (and a week!)?
- How can I keep on track and not be tempted to eat? Any tips? Advice?

Thank you so much :break_diet:

Hi and welcome, i am only just finishing 2nd week on CD and have not been 100%, i did LT for 4 weeks and didn't cheat once but can't say the same for CD. Even though i have loads more choice and a meal i'm struggling too. I have been ill though and think i'm just finding it hard to get back into ketosis.
I would advise to stay as busy as poss, drink loads of water, set mini and long term goals. Taking it a day at a time first of all helps me, then week by week. Are you doing ss or ss+?

Hi Em - if I'm being honest I don't know whether it is possible that you'll lose it all in that time, what I do know is that if you don't give it a go then you won't!

I'd imagine that if you stick to Cambridge then you will be very close to goal (if not there) and that you should give it your best shot!

I'm due to weigh in on Monday and am guessing (from home scales and loose clothes) that I've lost the 6lb I need to lose to get me to a 2 stone loss in 6 weeks --- can't really get much better than that.

Hope you do do it and best of luck ;)

I do know that some people have lost that amount of weight in that amount of time because you can see it in the signatures on here. It is hard work at the beginning, but once you get into the swing of it its ok. Get into the right frame of mind for Monday, and just go for it, even if you don't make 6 stone, I guarantee if you stick to it you will be at least 5 stone lighter, and thats got to be good.

Best of luck hun :) xx

Em, this is just from my own experience but it might help you. The first time I did Cambridge I followed it to the letter, I was so scared that yet another diet was going to fail and I wanted to prove myself and everyone else wrong. I was so scared of not losing each week that I didn't dare cheat. By staying 100% on the diet it does work and works quickly I lost 5st in 4 months, which included doing it while in Florida (I was THAT determined). Back then we had to go up to 810 every 5th week too, and I still managed to have good losses.

As far as I'm concerned if I stick to it 100% with no modifications or deviations it works perfectly. If I start to modify, or think 'this bit of choc or biscuit won't hurt' that's when it all goes out the window and I end up giving up.

It's taking me several restarts to realise this fact but now I've cottoned onto that I'm away and making good progress. I don't know if this has been any help to you, but it's just my own experience of how CD has worked for me.

Hope you manage it this time hun xxx

What worked for me was staying on track. I had to make CD a priority. I didn't allow planned lapses, blips, extra bits of food etc. I'm not saying it's wrong for everyone to do that but I needed to learn some discipline and work through some of the messages going through my head. Those times when I heard myself say 'I deserved a snack' I learned all about Transactional Analysis, and I was going back unhealthy eating thoughts. I needed to learn that just because I wanted to eat didn't mean I had to and I had to make my motivation about good health and not a number on the scale. Lastly, I also needed realistic expectations. The average weight loss is a stone a month and sure I lost a bit more at first but I didn't expect more than that.

Thank you, all. I feel ready to take it on and I shall make it my priority as recommended and not allow for planned 'excuses' which has been a problem for me before!

Surfhunny - it sounds like we've had a pretty similar experience! How are you finding it this time round? I plan to take it a day at a time!

Em if I'm honest it's been a bit of a struggle. My CDC is lovely and has put up with me moaning and whining about how hard I'm finding it this time. She's told me to write down a list of reasons why it's better to be the weight I am and why it's better to be thinner. I had one thing on my fat list! And that was it's easier to be fat than it is to diet!!

I've also found that since I've gone back on the diet I've been invited to more meals and nights out than ever before, it's like a conspiracy to keep me fat lol.

But last week I managed to find a new reason for doing it, my best friend asked me to be her daughters godmother and the christening is in April. At the moment I'm far from comfortable having my photo taken, and I don't want to feel like that on Erin's big day. So between now and April I'm giving it my all. It really helps having a reason for doing it, because sometimes doing it for yourself just doesn't seem urgent enough.
