does anyone tweak CD at all?

by this i mean having stuff that is not allowed like mayo/ketchup/days off?

I am on week 6 and have lost 15lbs o far, and looks like i will lose about 2-3lbs ths week. however, i have every sat off plan and enjoy the meals with my fam (this is usually just one meal at night and maybe some granary toast at brekkie). I do not binge on my day off and like to eat all the things i crave like fresh fruit and cups of tea!

i am now 1 stone away from goal and not a big meat eater so am thinking of doing 810 bbut slightly tweaked so i have my cd meals but then instead of a main meal i have some granary toast midday and fresh fruit (I crave this). i intend of haing some protein like cottage cheese and eggs too. i know this is not on plan but i have always tweaked CD to make it work for me and am still enjoyig my journey. once i finish with CD i want to go back to eating fruit and bread etc carefully so if i started bringing it in now would it be bad? does anyone else have something that is not allowed? I confess that at least once a week i give in and have some fruit (grapes, apples etc).

i know there are people who dont sway at all but i would love to hear from anyone who has changed the plan a bit, what do you do? what do you add that is not allowed? does anyone else have days off (planned days off like me?), has anyone else reached goal and then added wholemeal foods back in?

many thanks in advance for any replies!

I might sound harsh here, but I think CD should not be tweaked. It's a hard diet and once you add in the odd thing, it becauses multiple odd things and it becomes such a vicious cycle. I did 19 weeks 100% SS because I wanted to get to goal so badly; if I had tweaked I know I would have just set myself up for failing.

If you want fruit and toast, I suggest you move up to 1000. It's a great plan. I think CD has to be followed properly without tweaking, if not for the weight loss but the psychological side.

thanks for the reply - actually i forgot to mention in my first post that it reads like the 1000 plan. i think you are right in that perhaps i need to move up to the 1000 plan and see how it goes. i am happy to go slow and steady, and no you did not sound harsh at all.

i am going to stick to ss/ss+ for the next 6-7lbs and for the last half stone to goal i am intending on moving slowly up to 1000.

just one final point - i really respect anyone for doing CD, its hard, especially those who do ss without any blips. however, for it to work for me i had to have planned breaks and am pleased that i am still here at week 6. i wish i could do a long stretch off ss but i just not that strong willed. i dont mean to offend anyone and welcome all replies.

thanks again for your advice - makes perfect sense, and well done for losing girl!

hi Leeds..

If you can be strict with yourself to have a break day each week and get back on track the following day, then good luck to you. Do think though, that your body will have to shed that sugar and carbs again before loosing the fat.. So your losses will be slower then others. But everyone is different.

What have you lost doing this plan in the 6 weeks? Sorry to ask, as you have no stats up.

I was on ss last year and lost 2.5 stone on that plan, but found it hard and felt ill, my periods were continuous and put nearly all of that back on as soon as I'd stopped to go on hols. So back on re-start this year and tried ss, but in all honsty.. couldn't do it.. Hats off to those who can. I moved in with my BF las June and its nice to sit down in the eve and have a meal with the family and chat about the day, good for everyone!! So opted for the 810 plan in the end and lost 7lb first week, hoping for 2-3 this week and hope that it will be that there after each week too.

Not gone too far wrong with the 810, had my blip moments like everyone must have, but knowing that I can have that meal each eve, be that its small ;), still enjoy it and have my bar after to nibble on watching TV with my BF.

Good luck with your journey and hope it works for you :) xx

Hi hun,

I was exactly like you as I realy couldn't imagine not having any food at all. I have been trying all tweaks in a book since October last year... only to find out that I was not really doing myself any favours.

There is a good reason behind this diet being so strict and if you manage to stick with it you'll be losing lots. Once you are in ketosis it does get easier and allows you to be completely oblivious to any craving and food in fact. By actualy braking the cycle and refeeding your body with carbs again (especialy toasts and fruits) you are pushing yourself back to a square one. I don't think I could keep going in and out for a very long time as it is such a struggle for body and mind to keep adjusting... Cambridge is difficult enough itself so if you want to be kind for yourself you'd be sticking to it all the way.

And believe me - I was told that when I started but of course I wanted to find my own/easy way to stay on CD... Learnt the hard way and almost gave up half way through...

And on the last note - yep, I still tweak diet as now I have full understanding of process behind. But my guilty pleasure will never involve carb option - I would go for steak, cheese or egg...
Just enough to keep me satisfy but not enough to kick me out ketosis.

Good luck hun with your journey xxx

You have not offended anyone :) I think the main thing is that it works for you. I am not so good with tweaking, as I have more of an excessive personality so one tweak becomes multiple for me  You've done really well for losing that amount; it's clearly working for you so I wouldn't worry.

1000 is a great plan and helps your body get used to carbs again :) Good luck with the last little bit xxx

I tried tweaking - and ended up not losing any weight. It's too easy to con yourself into thinking it won't make any difference and then you feel so awful when you don't lose .... so make to doing it by the rules for me!

..and your results speak for themselves. Amazing loss Alex, well done. xx

I didnt 'tweak' at all since the start in May 2009.. went on holiday etc came off...but thats not tweaking.. im verrrrry close to 'goal' now and off cd altogether now doing a kind of 1000 plan still having my morning shake and for lunch but adding my own diet..its working for ME...but im very very very disciplined and as alex said up there...it can go the other way though and be a very wrong doing

I persoanlly wouldnt mess with SS/SS+/810 but thats me

Good luck x

Heres a warning, please dont tweak as we think we know best but proberbly don't.

I ran out of flavourings the other week starting ss+ so used normal juice instead (as I cant stand plain water.) I read somewhere on another thread that the juice can keep you out of keto and I managed to get into it so thought I was fine.

Came to WI day and I normally lose about 11lbs on my first week and I only lost 6lbs. I then found KD's post a few days later about juice/citric acid and realised the 'not getting into keto info' was wrong. Citric acid can actually make you hold onto weight

I thought I could tweak and paid for it in weight loss!
