Hiya everyone,

wanted to share this recipe i found,my boyfriend and i made it last night for my parents and it went down a storm, they loved it! i didnt tell them it was a slimming world recipe as i thought they might have a pre-concieved idea that it would be tastless, but after theyd finished i told them and they were amazed

i have only just started learning to cook (i realise that this sounds totally pathetic as i am 22...always relied on ronald mcdonald for my meals :) ) but i found this really easy to make, hope you like it as much as we did.x

Sweet and sour chicken

Serves 4
Prep time 15 mins + marinating
Cooking time 10 mins
Syn free
Ingredients:-
6 chicken breast fillets, skinned
6 spring onions, trimmed and finely sliced
2 garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped
salt and freshly ground pepper
3 tbsp light soy sauce
fry light for spraying
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
2 tbsp artificial sweetener
2 tbsp raspberry vinegar
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp chinese five spice powder
100ml/3 1/2 fl oz passata
Method:-
Slice the chicken very thinly and place in a shallow, non reactive dish. Sprinkle over the spring onions and garlic, season well and pour over the soy sauce. Toss to mix well, cover and marinate in the fridge for 20 minutes.
Spray a large, non stick frying pan with fry light and, when hot, add the chicken mixture and cook over a high heat. Stir and cook for 5-6 minutes and then add the dark soy sauce, sweetener, vinegar, paprika, chinese five spice and passata. Stir to mix well and bring the mixture to the boil.
Reduce the heat and cook gently for 3-4 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. check seasoning and serve immediately.

p.s i could find any raspberry vinegar so used balsamic

That sounds like a lovely sweet and sour sauce. I've never tried raspberry vinegar either but will look out for it now. And well done for getting stuck into the cooking - okay sometimes it might not work out okay but when it does, it just tastes so much better!

I can't find Raspberry vinegar in any of the supermarkets on mysupermarket :(
Amazon has loads though....with £6 shipping

Can't wait to try this.

*squeeeeeeeeee!* that's my "omg! free food yumminess" squeak.

Omg this is amazing just made it I think I'm gona eat it for a week :)

Will definitely have to try this, doesnt look as long-winded as the one on the SW website. I tried the Fanta equivalent and i didnt like it so fingers crossed this will do the job! x

I made this with a sceptical attitude as I'm not a big lover of sweet and sour, but my husband loves it!
I thought "syn free?", it'll be bland and tasteless and just tolerable.
How wrong was I, I added peppers at the request of my husband, to make it more takeaway like. It was totally awesome. Full of flavour and I really can't believe it's syn free?!! Really!
Hubby has asked me to add pineapple next time :)
Thank you so much x

defo gotta try this!

well....I've just made this, added blonde balsamic and a can of pineapple in juice and a yellow and red pepper... wow. it's yummy!

EDIT - the pineapple was 2.5 sins per 100g so x4 = 10 sins (it was a 400g tin) - divided by 4 people = 2.5 sins each :)
