Operation - any ideas?

I'm going in for day surgery on my knee on 11 March, will be going under a general for around 1 hour.
I'm not sure if this is safe when doing TFR? Anyone else had a general whilst doing Lipotrim?
I've called the hospital and was put through to a nurse, she had never heard of Lipotrim and told me to stop it 2 weeks before operation - seems a bit extreme! I'm on such a roll right now, I really don't want to stop it, unless it is absolutely necessary.
Thanks!

Could you possibly call the consultant? or a ditetrition hun?

What about ringing the Lipotrim helpline and asking them, they should know! :)

I think the advise she has given you is pretty good ... a general anaesthetic will react to the diet much the same as if you drank alcohol .. a normal dose may be very dangerous ..your body is metabolising very differently to normal and it is so not worth risking your life !!!! so i would start refeeding 2 weeks before and do a 2 week refeed plan .. then you can start back after the surgery
if its not a major op you should be fine to start back straight away , although if its more serious and you have a lot of healing to do it may be a good idea to stay off for 1-2 weks after too .

I am trying to get through to the LP helpline.....I'll let you know the outcome!

You definately need to refeed before your op. A friend of mine had an operation some time ago and was told to refeed for at least 2 weeks before her op.
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear,

I agree a friend of mine had a minor op before Xmas and was told by Lipotrim to refeed 2 weeks before hand and to not go full TFR until 6 weeks later. However she did a week's refeed and then came back to TFR when she felt better and that was about 2-3 weeks later I think - but overall she came through both the op and the diet problem ok and is now losing brilliantly again.

Whilst you can get lots of advice - I think its how you feel afterwards - if you want to TFR sooner rather than later then just try it and see how you go

I will put a fly in the ointment Dunders! I had an op last year under general too; was under for an hour also.

LT advised to come off and not to go back on for 6 weeks! they cover their own backs basically.

Well, I kept to LT the whole time and was FINE! Absolutely fine. The only thing I had to do was lie!!! Sorry, but being truthful.haha....before they let me out, they wanted me to eat a biscuit, so I pretended to! I just put it in my pocket and said I had eaten it.

I was absolutely fine; I obviously still had all my shakes and didnt do any exercise, but my experience was I was ok. I was like you, on a roll and I didnt want to stop at the time.

Not saying it is always right, but I knew me and I felt very healthy and knew I could get through it keeping with LT.

Up to you, but LT will tell you to not stay on it, which I can understand. My pharmacist was behind me, but did say if I felt unwell to get back onto food, but this never happened.

Up to you as we are all individual, but have to give my side of the story.

Not sure that lying is the best advice to give anyone! As someone else said, you will be metabolising at a different rate and that will have an affect on the anaesthetic. No diet/weight loss is worth risking your life for.

If it's an arthroscopy you are going in for then you will be on ibuprofen for 7 days after and any other pain relief you might need. I don't know if you can have ibuprofen with LT as they have to be taken with food but they are needed to bring down the swelling. After this 7 days and providing all is ok I see no reason why you can't get back onto it. So really for the sake of 3 weeks is it worth risking it?

I had a minor gynae operation just before Christmas and needed a general. Contacted Lipotrim helpline and was advised a 2 weeks refeed and not to restart Lipotrim for 6 weeks. I refed for a week had my operation and restarted Lipotrim a week later as I felt fine. The only thing that happened was that my blood pressure dropped through the floor afterwards, but I was soon fine. Mind you I did eat the toast afterwards though which was lovely. If you're unsure contact Lipotrim for their advice and then see how you are after the op before restarting. Good luck with the op. x

i'm not entirely sure about the body metabolising differntly angle??? we are metabolising our own body fat aren't we?? still able to take a paracetamol as normal without any abnormal affects so drugs are processed in the same way i would think??? being a nurse i know general anaesthetic is worked out according to our weight so i don't see a problem with doing as scots did dunders the anesthetic will be done according to your weight on the day....LT probably advise coming off to cover themselves should anything untoward happen and surgical patients often undergo a period of fasting prior to their op but as others have said seek advice thats best :)

as a nurse too I really feel that lying to the anaesthatist is a very very bad idea, you will certainly need more that 425 calories a day to recover from the op and I feel that the state of ketosis could effect the way the body reacts to the anaesthetic , much in the same way that drinking alcohol can be very dangerous when in ketosis too . Maybe worth the risk to some but there is no way I would advise anyone to risk it

I didnt lie to the aneathesist.....I lied to the nurse so she would let me go!!!!! I told the doctor I was on LT. I was suppose to fast from 9pm the day before anyway.

When I sat down with the pharmacist and she knew the op I was going for, she personally was behind me and said it would be fine, IF I FELT FINE, but to play by ear, which I did, and I had to be honest with Dunders and say I never felt any side effects; I was back to work in a few days.
In fact, I was home around 3 hrs after the operation.

People on here knew about it at the time as I was posting.

Sorry if it upset anyone, but not one for pretending; even although in this occasion I did because I knew I would have gone off the rails if I had started to eat at that time and the nurse wouldnt take no for an answer, as I said I didnt want a biscuit and she said that she wouldnt let me out unless I had one! Well, quite frankly I didnt even want it, so why should they force you to eat it when I didnt want to eat it. I had a coffee and I felt fine.

yes didn't say lie to the anesthetist or consultant or anything they should be aware that your on tfr but as you have to fast with a G.A anyway just can't see a problem with it??? i think alcohol has the effect it has due to the large amounts of calories and sugars it introduces to the body when we haven't had any??? i think drugs are processed in the same way.....btw a friend of mine was told by her surgeon and anesthetist that being on tfr wouldn't be a problem for her day surgery procedure???? and she too was fine afterwards

Think of it like this....IS IT REALLY WORTH THE RISK????
It wouldnt even be in question if it was to be dangerous during the op,it might not be....but it could well be!!!

Hi everyone,
It's taken me a long time to get an answer to this.
I spoke with the pre-op nurse this morning (I'm now having my op done privately), she has a good understanding of LT (hurrah). She has spoken directly to an anesthetist at the hospital, who confirmed it is in fact safe for me to continue on LT up to, and after my day surgery.
Clearly the LT helpline are just airing on the side of caution, which is understandable, however, I'm really glad I chose to speak directly to the medics about this!
