Weight Gain Question

Hiya, my friend is having problems with weight gain after being on SW for approximatly 15 weeks. She has been loosing and gaining the same weight for most of that time and now has gained 3lb this week even after sticking to the plan 100%. She has stuck to plan 100%, been doing some light exercise (running) and has been drinking more than enough water. 5 months ago she stopped smoking (which we knew would cause weight gain) and has recently come off some medication. She is also suffering from constipation even after eating scan bran and trying laxatives.

What can she do to get things moving again? This is really getting her down as she is doing nothing wrong to warrent a gain.

Thanks for your advice :)

It sounds weird but is she eating enough? Is she having all her Syns? Eating plenty of fruit?

She might be best speaking to her doctor about the medication as some can have an effect on weight

I would also question if she is measuring out her HE's and other foods that need weighing, or if she is guesstimating?
Taz is right too, she would need to speak with GP to enquire about medication and weight gain.
Well done on giving up the smoking though!!!

She has spoke to the doctors here that we work with and they say that it probably could but not to this amount.

She eats plenty of fruit, veg, varied HEX's and has 10-12 syns a day.

Very confusing as to what is going on to be honest :(

My consultant basically told me today, that i must be having bites of stuff and not writing them down. It really is disheartening when you know you are doing everything right, you are not losing weight, and everyone else beleives in the plan so resolutely, that they refuse to beleive you can be following it. I am ahving to rethink. I am counting my calorie intake for the next few days, to see what I am consuming. See if that sheds any life on stuff.

Big hugs I know that one
I was told by my consultant that when i get stressed by not losing weight that is when I pick at a biscuit or chocolate or lump of cheese NO I DO NOT !!!!! I don't have sweet foods in the house. The dietician at work told me that as you lose weight your body naturally requires less calories so if I am eating the same as I was when I started SW and was two stone heavier I will either maintain or worse still gain How true no consultant has told me that !!

This is true. As you get smaller your body needs fewer calories to carry out it's normal daily functions and your appetite should decrease in line with this.

But if she is losing and then gaining then there must be something else going on, but it's difficult to comment without seeing foods diaries etc.

I have had this problem aswell since november I have gained and put back on the same 4lbs.At first I blamed christmas but now its just getting annoying. My consultant and I had a talk and she said it may be because I am eating more now than when I started.Although they are all free foods on slimming world,if you don't have much to lose you may be having way too many calories. Also chocolate was my weakness but I didn't eat it every day whereas now I have an allowance for it I let myself have some everyday.
I probably could have lost the weight in a month on a low calorie diet but slimming world is much easier to do.I feel about ready to give up though!

Maybe she can try switching what Healthy Extras she is having. I have a friend who can't live without bread and kept eating it every day as her HEB. Once she replaced the bread with something else (for half of the week) she noticed a difference in her weight loss.

I believe in the plan resolutely but I also know that it does't always work for everyone. If I do red days I will gain. Red doesn't work for me. If I stick religiously to green days I know the weight will come off really well. For some people its the other way around. Some people can do either plan and lose really well but some, like me, has to stick to one or the other. I can do the odd day of red/EE but for it to work it has to be green for me.

Has she tried doing weeks of one followed by a week of the other?

at our class there is a strict meal plan that is supposed to boost weight losses for stuggling members...perhaps your friend could look at that - think its called Fast Forward?

I hope she loses soon, as i can imagine its tough for both of you, xxx

although giving up smoking is the one of the best things you can do for your health it does make some people gain weight (it did me) I had really bad constipation when I stopped! lol and did put on weight. However I would re-assure her that if this is the problem it will be very short lived and if she keeps the faith she'll very soon be a slim healthy non smoker!!!! disheartening I know but worth it in the end xx

Has she tried doind the SAS log? ive just been looking at them on SW website x
