I am struggling sooooo much to drink my water at the moment, i have been like it for the past week!!

I dont know whats wrong with me but I just cant drink it all, I think im prob only having 1.5 litres a day!!

I am also very constipated and i know not having all the water wont help it at all!!

Will this affect my weight loss??

Also can anyone recommend laxatives??

Thanks xx

I dunno if this may help...............but I have a volvic litre bottle which up until last week I was drinking directly from the bottle......I was only managing 2 -2.5 litres a day.....then I started using a cup...not a glass (don't ask why???)....and drinking water became easier...drinking 3-4 litres now!

I cannot recommend any laxatives.....have had no problem in this department....sorry :(

Hi, Have you tried drinking it through a straw. I find I drink it pints at a time without noticing. Or as suggested a sports bottle?

I have started taking the Fibre supplement and that has helped me as I was suffering as well.

Movicol is a fantastic laxative, is very gentle on the bowel. It works by drawing water into the bowel which in turn softens the poo.

Will take a few days of taking to work well, but don't be disheartened, it does work. Might be that you need to take a couple of sachets a day until you start going properly and then at the first sign of constipation after that start on one a day.

You can get movicol over the counter, although quite expensive I believe. However your gp might prescribe it for you which would work out cheaper.

As for the water, I too struggle but make a concerted effort to get 2litres of water down a day. I use a pint glass and as soon as I have finished one I fill it ready to sup on.

The thing is we need to drink at least 2litres of water as we are not eating and so not getting the liquid in our diet now. The water will also help with the constipation. I know it isn't in the rule lol, but maybe try using tea and coffee for now to make up the 2 litres if you really can't stomach it all as water. At least then you are getting the fluid into you and you can try and up the water over a period of time. With me the 2 litres of water has becme a habit now. I have a pint when I get up, a pint around lunch time, another mid afternoon and the last about 5pm. This way I know any extra I drink is a bnus.

Hope you get de-bunged (that is a technical term you know pmsl) and manage to up the fluid intake.

Charlie xx

Thanks everyone!

Charlie I could not bring myself to drink movicol or anything that requires me to drink any sort of liquid, I am a big kid in this department and cant even have cough medicine without it making me retch!!

Do you know if I can have Senna tablets???

thanks x

I go through stages with the water, some weeks I can drink 4 litres and others I am forcing myself to drink 2. For me I set targets. I have a 1 litre bottle that I have to get through before I leave work and I just glug at it thoughout the day, so long as I drink at least that I only have 1 and a half litres at home which is manageable. Any extra water at work is a bonus, and some days I can drink 3 litres at work.

I struggled at the beginning as I was drinking water out of the fridge, and found that room temperature water was easier to get down.

I also drink out of bottles as I like to see how much I have left.

Yes you can :)

I struggled with water when I dieted at this time of year. Found my answer with having it hot

As well as other suggestion from above, try walking around with it. Where you go, your water bottle goes and keep taking sips. Add a little extra water to your shakes or soups. Keep a glass of water by your bed for when you wake.

Thanks everyone!

Just be careful with Senna as research shows it can cause the bowel to become lazy with long term use. You might be better with Dulcolax if you can't drink Movicol then. Dulclax can be a bit evil, but doesn't cause the side effect of sluggish bowels.

Hope you find something that helps xx

Constipation

It's best to take a constipation preventer before the problem starts, though don't take it if you are already constipated.

Preventers: A teaspoon of Cambridge fibre, or 2 teaspoons of something like fibresure a day throughout the diet is safe and usually keeps thing moving.

If you do get constipation, stop the preventative immediately and use a laxative. Most laxatives are fine, though avoid ducolax as it's too harsh for a VLCD. Sennokot or movicol with a backup (excuse the pun LOL) of a glycerine supp. if necessary.

You shouldn't take laxatives regularly as the bowels will get lazy and you'll end up depending on them

So, if you have constipation now, try the sennokot or movicol (with or without a suppository). You can get sennokot as tablets, and when the blockage is gone use fibre to prevent it returning.
