I know with fruit, if u stew it it alters the value of it. But can i still class potatos, carrots etc as Free and then just count the oil as 3 or 6 or what ever its worth? or does the entire value change?

yeah this is where im confused. Because surely u use half a tbsp to fry an egg anyway so it should equal as 3 i dont know if veg is the same! i just play it safe and count them all

If you fry an egg with oil, most of the oil stays in the pan when you lift it out. Even more oil disappears if you drain it on kitchen paper. Unless you eat all the remaining oil you won't be taking on board the syns. I am assuming that is why a fried egg is only half a syn.

Compare that with scrambled eggs with butter - all the butter gets incorporated into the egg, so you eat it all. Same with an omelette.

Could you not use oil as an HEX? Or is this my old book letting me down again? If you brush the oil on the veg, a little will go a long way.

Does Fry Light Spray come under syns then? I quite often make roasted mediterranean vegetables by spraying with Fry Light before putting in the oven.

fry light is free
and olive oil 1 tblsp can be used as a hexb

I didn't know that! I rarely use my HEB, so could use oil!

However, I have now nailed making roast potatoes with Fry Light, so would not need to use it for that :D

I found it weird when i first started that you could have oil as a hexb. Not that i have ever used it as a hexb.

I do have trouble using my hexs!

Altho found scan bran lol was well chuffed that i found it in holland and barretts lol not overly chuffed bout eating it tho lol

I always struggle to get my HEA and HEB when on Green- unless I plan it I always fail to have them.
HEA are not a problem as I always have a glass of milk at night time (and will always happily have 2 glasses), but I was always missing out my HEB. So I know have Ryvita for lunch and Alpen Light bars for breakfast. Do not see lunch while at work as any particular highlight of the day so happy to have the same thing every day!

if you need to use oil, rather than use a tablespoon poured over use a teaspoon in a plastic bag with the veg or watever your roasting, mix it up till all the veg gets covered. i saw this on telly the other week. i tried it too, works, saved on syns and tasted delicious

I'm pretty sure it's only extra virgin olive oil that counts as a healthy extra, but I'm sure someone will come along shortly with a confirmation/correction...
