What am I doing wrong?

Hi All,

Looking for a bit of insight here. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong so I'm going to kind of list out how my weeks typically go. The reason why I'm asking is that I'm not really losing fat at this point (I don't think).

Last week I put on 4lb of water weight for my weigh in, I'm thinking because of my incident with having a little bit of alcohol and not being completely out of keto but since then I've been feeling extremely bloated and very crampy like I was getting my TOTM but nothing has happened. I've been sitting at SS+ with a couple days of bumping up to 700 kcal or so, but I've always had low carbs.

This week the 4lb of water weight went off pretty quickly but then came on again later in the week, my water intake is always more than it needs to be and right around 3-4 liters per day.

My extra meals on SS+ usually consist of fresh chicken breast (so not high sodium) and maybe some egg whites or extra lean turkey bacon or something. My sodium intake is never high which I would connect to the water weight.

Unfortunately I just started taking my measurements so I cant tell if anything is changing that way but all I do know is I'm working but nothing seems to be happening.

Before CD when I felt bloated I would drink a detox tea a couple times a day, I'm just a little uncertain about pairing that with CD although its really just a souped up green tea.

Help!

No but I've had symptoms of pregnancy for six months now lol. Although I've gone through right around 8 billion pregnancy tests during that time as well.

Also, if it helps, my stomach is always really upset and my muscles are always sore. I think I may be getting sick but I've never noticed water retention with a common cold or something.

Thank god hun!

Hmmmm, what about toilet? Some people retain water when they're constipated.

Also I reckon you're probably losing inches instead of the weight. But like ya said you can't check that.

Could take your waist measurement today and see if it's any less in a couple of days. My waist seems to be the one that's losing the quickest to easiest to check any change.

Don't give in though hun!

Only reason I ask is, my mum suffered terrible with craps and water retention/bloating while going through the change.

You didn't mean to say that, did you? :D :D :D Although it still sounds like it might be appropriate.

Aseyan, it's hard to say cos your program's a little different to the UK one. For example here, egg whites and bacon would be an absolute no-no.

But if it is water retention, maybe there's nothing much you can do, other than wait to lose some more poundage rather than the water. By the sound of it, the water fluctuations are something you're always going to have to deal with, even when you get to your ideal weight.

Wish I could say something more helpful. It's so frustrating, isn't it?

Are you following the plan completely? I don't know about in the states, but here egg whites and things like that aren't included. Don't know if it's to do with that at all. Do you drink any fizzy drinks, even if diet? Other than that, haven't got a clue, hope you work it out!

I do not eat regular bacon - good lord no, its turkey so all of 20 kcal, 1 carb and 4 protein. If anything its just something to add some flavor but nothing really dense with nutrients. I'd be interested in knowing why egg whites are a no-no however, I do not eat them very often.

The thing with the US version is that there wasn't a lot of guidance on what foods were acceptable, maybe because there isnt as much intention around it - welcome to the US right? But I do try to stay away from tomatoes and onions and things like that due to hearing that on the forums.

The good thing is that I'm not thinking about giving up by any means but I'm thinking that I might be doing something wrong. I just got my electrolyte test back and my sodium, calcium and other minerals are perfect so that couldnt be the cause... hummm.

CG - I usually drink almost all of my water pure, I allow myself to have 1 fizzy drink or 1 CD water mix per day. The only thing is that my water is tap water cause its safe here, but I can't imagine that would make a difference.

Well, that's one good thing about being in the States - you've got access to tests like that. I can just imagine the look on my GP's face if I went in and demanded a test. :D :D :D

I can't help you with the egg white thing, other that to say that it's just not in the plan here (and the plan is the Word, LOL).

How about posting some sample menus of what you're eating for meals on SS+ meals? Are you weighing how much you're having in the way of vegetables for example? Although they're low in calories, potentially they could stack up, I s'pose. But there might be something you're eating that's throwing things out.

Hmm, that's another thought. Could you be lactose intolerant?

I honestly don't eat a ton of vegetables, mostly protein like chicken breast (4 oz), 1/4 cup of fat free cottage cheese, a glass of skim milk (hoods which is low carb) etc.

I actually am lactose intolerant but only with certain types of cheeses. The US versions are soy based so thats good and I've never had water retention due to it before.

Hmm. Well, it sure doesn't sound like you're doing too much wrong.

In which case, it could just be one of those weeks - the ones where inexplicably, you just don't lose anything. On the plus side, they're usually followed by weeks where you get a nice big loss, so long as you hang in there.

And it sounds like you're determined to do just that - good on ya. :)

Hmm I don't know then! I know here all of the plans are pretty strict, you're allowed a certain amount of 'green' and a certain amount of 'white'. Not sure why we can't have egg whites, they're just not on the list. The fizzy drink could be the cause possibly, I know here they say don't have them. The citric acid can kick you out of ketosis but also it can cause water retention. Maybe you're sensitive to citric acid?

Is your TOTM due? That could explain it. Not constipated?

It's good that you're not thinking about giving up, it will even out I'm sure. Do you measure yourself too?

Alright, I'll be super good this week and just be really attentive to everything that I'm taking in to see if there's something that might be bordering bad news. Thanks ladies :)

I will make an effort to stop the fizzy drinks and maybe that will help they just taste divine! And not constipated and I have no idea when the TOTM will be. I stopped birth control shots a few months back and have yet to have it, the doc says it could take up to a year - I'm not complaining really :).

And I actually just started measuring myself a few days ago so I really have no idea there.

I find that there are times when my weight doesn't change, or even goes up slightly, but I've lost inches, so hopefully you'll find that happens too! I'm sure that whatever it is, it'll sort itself soon, and you'll have a decent loss. Maybe try cut out the fizzy drinks, which I know is really hard, and see over a week if it makes any difference, it might not be that, I don't really know!
