Hi everyone.

I've come to the point where I just don't know what to do to lose weight and keep it off. I've been a yoyo dieter for 10 years now and I've had enough. I lose the weight and then pile it back on and then some. I know I have a very bad relationship with food and want to break the vicious circle. I'm nearly 16 stone having put on 3 and a half during the past 7 months. I really don't know what to try next. I've tried many diets, the most successful was the Cambridge diet. I lost 4 stone and was really happy. I went done to a size 10 which I haven't been since I was about 12yrs old. I'm now in my 30's and would love to lose weight and keep it off. I would appreciate any advice anyone has on the best way to go from here.

Hi B, Can I suggest maybe a trip to your doctor? Tell him what you have just written here and he may have some suggestions to help you, even if it is a support group or a local Weight Watchers or whatever. As I have found out, there is loads of support here but you need to want to do it for yourself, set a date and go for it. Good luck and remember, it CAN be done!

It might be an idea to explore why you fail rather than look for another diet. Any diet will work if your head is in the right place. You could look at a diet that includes counselling (like LL) or if you can afford it or get your GP to prescribe it see a one-to-one counsellor. I also agree with KittyBling that a support group can help.

Exactly as above. You're viewing diets as a tool to lose weight. What you're not doing is accepting that your lifestyle is making you fat.

So what happens? You use a diet - evidently very successfully. Then you revert to your "normal lifestyle", because your "diet is over". And, of course, your normal lifestyle is what made you overweight in the first place.

It's not so much that you have a bad relationship with food. It's that you're totally unused to eating a regular, healthy lifestyle.

I would say give CD another go, since it worked so excellently for you last time. But before you reach your goal weight, work out in advance how exactly you will maintain your weight once you are at target.

You will need to figure out:
- How much exercise to take, and how often,
- How many calories to eat to maintain your weight,
- How you will go about getting those calories,
- How often you will check your weight to ensure you are still on target.

You need to realise that to lose weight and keep it off, you have to change how you live, and you have to do that for the rest of your life. It's not as scary as it sounds though, so don't panic. Once you're eating a healthy, balanced, controlled intake to maintain weight for a few months it becomes second nature.

Consider your body to be your vehicle. You wouldn't drive a vehicle without giving it the proper fuel and regular maintenance checks. So don't drive your body without giving it the right juice and checking it out to ensure it's ticking over nicely :D
