What do you think?

I would like to know what people think about tummy tucks. I have been fat since I was 15 - have never enjoyed shopping for clothes - can't 'see' myself if you know what I mean! Well, now I'm 70, pretty sick - diabetes; kidney failure; blood pressure etc. so this time on lipotrim I sense will be my last chance to prolong my life. So I am really really motivated and plan to drop from 18st.9 to 11st.7. Today I am 17st 1lb. I started on 6th January. I have said all that because I can see that I am going to have a lot of spare skin.(used to be 21 stone) I don't like that - but am I too old to want a tuck? Is it silly? Would you have one?

Hello Annes...

Im really sorry if this sounds rude.. but I dont think they would preform that procedure on a woman who is 70 years old?

Im sure once you complete lipotrim you will feel alot better in yourself anyway.. lose skin or not!

I dont think your age would be much of a barrier if you went private , although I think with your medical problems it would be risky surgery .
I have thought about this too as i have been overweight since I was about 9 and think I may too get 'saggy', I have costed up a private proceedure ( about £3500 ) , and there is no way we could find this , but if I did end up with a large amount of flesh I would look at the options , as I see nothing wrong with this surgery . Although I wouldnt do it if there may be a risk to my life which is possible in your case .

Think I can answer this for myself really, I'm not too old to want it - but am to old to have it!

Would others have done?

No i dont think I would..

I couldnt jusitfy spending that amount of money on it to be honest!

Hi Anne

I don't think you are too old to want or to have the procedure done. As you said you've been overweight since you were a teenager. Once you get to goal how great would it feel to have any sagging skin removed and actually feel and look slim for the first time in 55 years? Bare in mind too that with such great weightloss will also come improved health and fitness so assuming the anaesthitist is happy with your health at that point in time I can't see any reason to hold back. Go for it, I know for sure I would!

You could speak to the doctors and see what they recommend? When i've finished i'm going to need one and if the nhs don't give it me then i'm gonna save up and go private. I like you have been overweight since I was 15 and losing that amount of weight quickly doesn't help the loose skin...sit ups help a little but that tones the muscle and not the outside :(

Good luck with whatever you decide to do

Why not make enquires about the nhs and the private cost and then when you have lost all your weight you can decide. I have a couple off friends who have lost a lot of weight (one has lost 20 stone) and are talking of this procedure, there ages vary one is in her late 20s and the other in her 60s and both have been saving up as they will only get a basic tummy tuck so they were going to pay the rest themselves(ie arms legs) one is going ahead (the younger one) and the other decided that she would have to remorgage her house to have everything done to her satisfaction (her husband was quite relieved when she changed her mind), and they are both happy with their decisions. I would have it done if it was on the nhs if I really felt it was bothering me enough to be spoiling my life. Good luck with it.

Hi Anne,
Part of my motivation for staying on lipo is that I intend if i can get the finances to get a tummy tuck when I lose the weight as after four children, my stomach is absolutely gross!!:cry:.No matter how much weight i lose, i will never wear a bikini unless i can get this procedure done!!
I would just say to you that you should seek medical advice first and then, why not, go for it!!!!

Hi Annes,

Did you let your pharmacist know that you have diabetes prior to starting Lipotrim, as I am almost sure that people with diabetes cannot be on Lipotrim? A friend of mine wanted to do it, but was told that as he has diabetes he couldn't...

I have really appreciated the responses to my question about tummy tucks. Thanks all.

Concerning diabetes lipotrim actually does wonders for it provided its type 2 not type 1 (which is insulin dependant) however, I had to get off all diabetic drugs first, fortuntately I have a good GP who realises how much I need to do this. During this second week my blood sugar has dropped to between 7 and 5 which is just about normal. I feel good too!

Hi Anne

I had a tummy tuck and a breast lift after losing 4.5 stone about 2 years ago.

If the doctors give you the go ahead and finance allow then I would say go for it. After two children and losing so much weight I was left with boobs that resembled snooker balls in tube socks and a miserable apron of skin that sat on my lap even though I was 9.5 stone. I maintained my weight loss for one year and then went ahead with Bupa, found a fantastic surgeon who specialist in breast reconstruction and still think it was the best money I ever spent. Even when I went up to 13 stone my stomach was still lovely and flat and my boobs stayed where they were supposed to, no I am down to 11stone 3lbs and my boobs are still sat where they are supposed to and my stomach is looking amazing - the first thing I do every morning is admire my lovely flat stomach in the mirror, I had my muscles tightened up at the same time as the op so I have defined muscles there that I am now seeing again as the weight falls away.

It's a very personal decision to make but if you really want it, research it, find a good surgeon that you can see pics of his/her work and go for it.

Hope this helps, if you have any in depth questions just pm me and I will give you all the gory details you need.

By the way, both ops together cost me £7500 (had just sold my house and made quite a bit of profit, wish I had that much spare now lol) as with Bupa they had not put their prices up for 9 years.

Hi annes
I too have been overweight most of my life and have an "apron" which I dont think will disappear once I get to goal!
I would consider surgery (if I could afford it) although I must admit to being scared of the procedure.

I think you need to go and speak to someone..just because you are 70 doesnt mean it isnt possible..there might be other procedures that may not be so extreme!

I take my hat off to you doing LT; it isnt the easiest diet and you are obviously so determined to do this, which I think is fantastic, esp at your age...and I hope I dont sound patronising..I dont mean to.

Just do all your homework and go and see people to find out more about it.

Take care

I had gestational diabetes (only in preganancy) and then it goes away so I am not diabetic now but i would have an underlying tendency to it if i dont keep my weight down.

what ever make you happy, i would if needed.

Hi Annes,

Well done on your weight loss:happy096:

Best thing is to consult a plastic surgeon and if he agrees to do it then why not.

I am 54 and if I felt I needed a tummy tuck I would have one providing the surgeon give me the go ahead.

70 years old is not really that old now-a-days, now that you are doing something about your weight loss you could be looking at another 20 to 30 years of active life ahead of you, who is to say different.

What ever makes you feel good about yourself is what is important and if after losing your weight you decide to treat yourself to a tummy tuck...go for it.

I think it is brilliant that you are so motivated now, please don't lose it!
