New To WW - Trying to do this on my own...

Hi all,

just joined. I have done WW in the past and have had moderate success with it, normally I think I just lose motivation and especially when the sales show little or no loss. However afterthe birth of my daughter I weigh in at my heaviest at 14 stone 7lbs and hate the way it is making me feel so here I am.

Money is an issue at the moment (as in the lack of) so I am trying to do WW on my own at home.

I have worked out that I would be on 23 points a day - is this correct?/ (I am 5ft 5, not breast feeding, 14st 7lbs and fairly sedantary) and I hope to start my own dairy and track what I eat.

Being overweight is really affecting every part of my life I feel, lethargic, looking in the mirror makes me feel miserable and it no longer the baby weight (she is 6 mnths old) but just plain old fat so hopefully this the year to shift most of it and get back to feeling fabulous.

Anyway, am waffling, hope to get to know you some of you ladies.

I know you said about getting to know some of the ladies on here, but there are also some blokes on here too :D

Anyway, I do WW from home, have never attended a meeting or done the online thing and it works for me. There are plenty of people on here to offer support and advice and they are all full of motivation that I come on here and read some posts just to get a boost.

Don't be afraid to ask anything you want as there will always be somebody who has the answer.

Make sure and keep us posted about your losses, but most of all... be the best loser you can be! :)

This is a good place if you're doing it on your own! I struggle with motivation and there's nothing like having this support here all day and all night when you feel yourself getting weak. It's inspiring to chat to people who have done so well, and in a relatively short space of time. It'll remind you that anyone can do it!

Hi Old before I die and Melvina, thanks for the replies.

I have started a food diary. I am hoping that will keep me on track, I don't know what the matter with me but I am proper hungry today. I thought I would give up smoking the same time as losing weight but I think I may have misjudged and over estimated my own will power. So it is baby steps for me from now on. My husband said I should either try and lose weight or give up the cigs - do one at a time and I think he maybe right. So, I am gonna concentrate on the weight loss first. My first mini goal will be to lose 10% of my body weight which will help me feel better about myself no end. I think I might even start a weightloss diary to help keep me on track and keep me motivated - goodness I need a kick up the bum as it is.

Hello from me too,
you've come to the right place for plently of advice and support
everyone is very friendly and welcoming I'm sure you are going to
find this forum very addictive in no time at all.
I'm also doing ww from home as I never get the time to go to meetings etc so there are plenty of us all gathered together i'm sure you are going to do brilliantly

It will be really really tough to lose lots of weight and quit smoking at the same time! They are both very important things that you should do, but maybe your husband is right that you should chose one as your first priority and tackle the other when you feel in control of your first 'demon'. If you decide to try losing weight first, maybe you could give yourself a little push by saying something like, "Right, I'm losing weight, but I'll try to cut down smoking." Maybe you could cut out one cigarette a day for each pound you lose! *Seriously though, I'm not a doctor, I don't know if that's good advice or not!*

10% is a great first goal. You'll notice a difference and it is apparently very beneficial for your health too.
xx

Hi,

I'm going it alone too and know how you feel, when it came to the point where I cancelled a night out with friends because I was in tears at my weight and felt like none of my clothes fitted I knew it was time to do something!

I've done wieght watchers before so I'm familiar with it, my boyfriend is a great support and it sounds like your husband will be to you.

Take it from a on/offdieter and smoker, only do the one until you're in your stride! I forever tried to quit both at once and would always fail, not only are you deprived of chocolate but also of that fag and I found I would cave in and have either a fag or somethng naughty food wise and that was it, I would use it to justify quitting the diet or smoking thinking that I'd already messed up one of them so I may as well mess up all of them and start new on Monday!

Although I'm a bit of a lurker on this forum (I am trying to post more) I find it a source of wisdom and inspiration. I love to read peoples success stories and think that'll be me one day!

Phew, that was a very long hello, but hello!

Hi everyone,

wow what a warm welcome.

As awful as it sounds I think I will focus on the weight loss. I quit smoking when I was trying to get pregnant and then all throughout my pregnancy I guess weight loss was certainly not a primary concern then.

Since having my LO and a few stresses here and there I have started again. I think trying to do both WW and quit smoking at the same time is perhaps sabatoging my attempts to do either really well before I have even begun.

My weight has always been an issue, the most I have ever weighed was almost 15 stone a few years ago. Then I did Lighter Life and went down to my slimmest of 10 stone and a nice size 12. I am now very near my heaviest and although I love my LO to pieces the unwanted baby weight i definitely can do without. Lighter Life isn't an option because of the cost and also because despite the quick weight loss I found I couldn't really sustain it without being super wary of every morsel I ate and ultimately for me I didn't feel it was healthy to be so focussed on foods.

It's making me feel really crappy about myself, so here I am.

I am going to give this a go and try and do it by myself without attending meetings, but not sure if I can do without things like the online points tracker (i joined online too last time). So far I am managing my points but I think I may need to invest in a points calculator...

thank you again for all your encouraging messages - they really motivate me and make me feel I can do this.

Hello and :welcome:

I too dont go to meetings ect and anyways all the info you need is on here and if it aint just ask as all the girls and guys are more than happy to help out.

I have been losing weight slowly since October and thats me below my target. It can be done at home and once you start noticing a difference in your clothes ect that will spur you on.

Good luck with your weight loss journey xxx

If you have the willpower it can be done, i left my ex OH years ago and decided to lose weight and quit smoking and that was the time i had the best weight loss sucess. I got to goal and never used patches or anything i just stopped smoking that night and have never smoked again.
I think i was soooooooo determined after all he did to mess my life up i wanted some control back. So if you truly have the will to do it i would say go for it :D

Well done for giving up the evil weed, I seriously wish I had never started - but moving forward I think I am going to concentrate on losing a bit of weight first and then tackle the smoking. :)
