SLOW COOKER PROBLEMS!!!!!!

Hi Girls and Boys.

I have now purchased 3 slow cookers
1. Morphy Richards 6.5l
2. Crockpot 6.5l
3. Tesco slowcooker 3.3l

They all FAST COOK not slow cook!!
My meals have been ruined on low when left for 7 hours!

I mad a lamb stew in the Tesco one and it advised to use high as normal setting 7-8 hours and low to warm food - my stew was overdone in 4 hours!

I am now about to return my 3rd one!!!
Can anyone offer any advise or recommendations!!! :)

I have a cheap one bought from argos and it has a low setting, high setting and a warm setting, have never had any proboems with it and it cost less than a tenner :)

Is it the Tesco one that was on offer for £10 recently? How full are you filling it?

What are you putting in them? Maybe you aren't putting enough liquid in there?

I have recently bought one, and have used it twice. The first time I browned the meat and stirfried the veg, then cooked on low for 8 hours. The second time I didn't brown the meat, and cooked it on auto for about 8 hours. Auto cooks on high for 3 hours and then switches to a low setting.

The larger one was just over 1/2 way and the tesco one is £15 and i filled it almost to the top and just lightly fried the onions and garlic everything else went in raw - so was very surprised it cooked so quickly! Lamb was tender though i must say.

But still, the sole purpose of buying one was to be able to use it while I was at work....but i return to a pot of MUSH :)

Mine has three thermostat setting plus a warm setting too, so make sure you get a slow cooker with settings so that you can control it as the food is cooking.

To be honest i'm not sure what to suggest, mine has low, high and warm settings and I cook on low, for anything from 6 hours to 8 hours and have had no problem. I have left it for hours on end unattended so its not that you have to babysit it.

Did it come with a cooking chart that you can refer to, I have put everything in raw and precooked some stuff with the same results.

Sorry you are having problems sorting it, but once you have it sussed it will be a great addition to your kitchen.

good luck

i think i might try it on low first before returning yet another one!
The best one I ever had belonged to my mum and was an old ocre coloured swan one from the 70's!!!! Gave it back to her in favour of a newer looking one!! :(

I have a cookworks one with a low, high and warm setting. I left a chilli in it one day on low when I was at work and it was quite burnt around the edges when I got home.

I have a plug in timer so now use that and set it to come on at lunchtime. :)

You can get them from any DIY store. Argos do them too, a pack of three for £12.99 but you should be able to buy singles from elsewhere :)

Sounds like the one I have. I've done a big joints in it for 8 to 10 hours on low and they've been lovely - lamb with rosemary, gammon in apple juice, chicken with lemon and pepper. Just enough liquid to cover the bottom.

And various stews and things, filled about 3/4 full and again for 8 to 10 hours. Using cheap cuts of meat that need a slow cooking or mince. Did a turkey mince spag bog last night and it was gorgeous.

I'd try again as you've said and fingers crossed. I was considering a timer plug thingy but so far haven't felt like I needed it after all.

Hi, we use ours all the time now. Find lamb does breakdown alot but tastes lovely, cook on low all day and no problems. Also cook whole chickens, dont put any water in but place the chicken on a couple of carrots or an onion instead. Did a leg of lamb the other weekend and wow it was gorgeous. Browned it in the oven for 1/2 hr to make it crispy on outside. Do find chicken on the bone in a casserole just falls off when you come to serve, but again taste lovely. Try again on low setting and good luck.

Yes I think your recipe is wrong - where did you get it from? Normally cooking times would range from 6 to 9 hours on low and half that on high. It's highly unlikely you have had the bad luck to come across three defective cookers so it must be down to something that you are doing and I think this will be it.
