I tasted the Low Low by Kraft yesterday ( it was on offer at Morrisons ) It didn't taste of anything really and 28 g is 3 syns. I think unless I find an alternative which tastes cheesy then I will just use half the amount of regular mature chedder for 3 syns .

Opinions please ?

Cathedral City lighter is great.

probably the stronger cheese for the same syns seems to be really popular among the people at the group i go too, the men prefer the stronger ones, we had this very topic just before christmas, and the price seemed to crop up too

Laughing cow extra lite, love them

Oh yes I have these in but I mean somethimes you need proper grated cheesy cheese if that makes sense. I think I might just go ahead and use half the amount of proper mature cheddar then . It saves me buying separate cheese for the rest of the house.

The Sainsbury's be good to yourself mature cheddar is nice and the strongest tasting low fat cheese I've found. It's on offer at the moment too!

I haven't tried the sainsbury one as I don't shop there very often but will look out for it. At the moment the best one it've tried is the Cathedral City Lighter. I have the Kerry one in the fridge as it is was on offer but it really isn't a very strong cheese. I made macaroni cheese and could barely taste the cheese!

I would rather have a smaller amount of proper cheese - M&S Cornish Cruncher Cheddar is my favourite (cheaper to buy it in the little 99p taster blocks).

I also like Laughing Cow light. And parmesan - I buy it in a block from Aldi, where it is much cheaper, and grate it as needed (can't stand ready grated parmesan). If you grate it finely, it goes a very long way.

this cheese is a Godsend!!!

42g for an A choice. grate it finely and you get a HUGE pile of cheese :)

..and it melts well. a rare thing for a low fat cheese!

I concur, for a low fat cheese it does well. This is my cheddar of choice :)

I like the Aldi and Sainsbury's reduced fat mature cheddars. Both seem to melt well and do nicely grated on jackets or on top of a pasta bake. I think mature is the best bet as you get lots of flavour for your 42g. I didn't used to like mature cheese before sw but I prefer it now for the extra flavour.

I'm with Hellicopter, Aldi reduced fat mature cheddar is gorgeous and I think in a blind taste you honestly would struggle to tell it from full fat cheddar.

I don't like to have the same cheese all the time, as different cheeses work with different recipes, so I normally have a few in. Mainly, fresh parmesan, cheddar and mozzarella. Sometimes I get some monterey jack cheese in as it is lovely melted.

The magazine a couple of months ago tested low fat cheese and M and S came out tops. I use mozarello balls for pasta as they don't weigh much and ricotto cheese (85gm HEXB on green)which I mix with spinach. If i have thinly sliced cheese on ryvitas, then the stronger the better. Real shaved parmesan is great for adding flavour as a topping xxx

My fave cheese is the extra mature vintage cheese from Waitrose. They're numbered in terms of strength and this one is the strongest (No. 7!) really good stuff and very little goes a loooong way!
