Sweetners?

Hi everyone!
I've never used sweetners on LT before but I'm thinking it might be handy when feeling the need for a sugar boost in black coffee?
Which ones are ok to use and how many/how often etc?
Thanks!

As long as they are in tablet form use any, i use canderal as they are the only ones that don't leave a vile taste in your mouth afterwards, you can have as many as you need. But not the powders.HTH

I use about 4 sweetners in my shakes - makes them really really sweet. I had a choc shake the other day and forgot to put sweetner in it - not nice lol. Weirdly before LT I used to drink black coffee and tea without sweetner but since being on LT I have to add sweetners to it :)

I used to have around 4/5 in black coffee but to be honest 2 is more than enough! I used sweetex and still do :)

I use Sweetex and have two in my coffee and one in my vanilla and strawberry shakes. I find the chocolate one OK without. x

Tablet sweeteners are OK, but try to limit how many you use. Being on TFR is a good opportunity to try to ween yourself off "dangerous" flavours and sweetness must be amongst the worst. Don't worry if you don't enjoy the shakes etc. much. You're not supposed to. LT say they should be palatable but no more. Think of them as fat burning medicine and you'll be fine.

I'm going to disagree with you on this one Jon, this plan is hard - you know that, look how fabulous you have done yourself, I'm sure that wasn't easy. Why make it harder than it has to be? Obviously having 10 sweeteners in a shake may not be a great idea but if adding the odd sweetener to your shakes and a couple in your hot drinks means that you stick to the plan then surely it's worth it?

This is only my opinion of course and we each have our own, but I won't feel guilty about having a few sweeteners when I am choosing to not have so many other things that I would happily shove in my gob!!

No one should feel guilty about what they eat - and I think you're right in as much as you have to be able to stick to the diet, but there is a balance. A sweetner is fine if it makes it palatable, but going down the road of messing about too much with the LT products is a dangerous one. There are lots of other diets (and some TFR ones) which offer much more choice in what you can eat. Cambridge for example is very flexible, and if people struggle with the lack of choice on LT that would be a good option for them to consider.
I believe (and it is only my belief) that part of LTs success for me is the lack of choice. It is teaching me not to base my day (or life) around meals and eating. It is teaching me that it is perfectly possible to live a happy and fulfilled life without having two takeaways a week and a massive Sunday lunch. It has changed my life more than I can say. I hope that it is preparing me for facing food again.
I am also enthusiastic in following the LT rules to the letter. I honestly believe that is the only way we will lose weight and then keep it off. If chucking a sweetener in a shake helps then do it, but don't go too far in trying to make stuff enjoyable.

God I'm rambling. Hope it's clear what I mean.

I'm with Sammylou on this one. If adding a sweetner or two helps to make them taste just a bit nicer then so be it.

I dont need sweetners in my shakes I like them all without them!

Sometimes if I am in the mood for something a little sweet I will have one in my black coffee...

Even after coming off LT last time I never switched back to sugar and stuck to sweeteners!

And...

TESCO STRIPEY LABEL FTW!!!!! lol!

do you think it effects weight loss the amount you use?

Zero cals in most tablet sweeteners. :)

I have to say I'm with the gals above. Being incredibly fussy and liking so few foods I have to put sweetener in my shakes. If I don't add them, and I swear this is the truth, I gag until they come back up again and I'm wearing them.

I do understand where you're coming from though Jon - when I was on LT the first time I was quite firm and blunt about people adding anything to their shakes that were not supposed to be added such as cinnammon and almond essence - however LT HQ themselves say that sweeteners are allowed. :)

The point is kids we're supposed to be cleansing our palates of sweet and salty foods as those are most likely to be addictive and eventually cause weight gain however if it helps you get your 'thin medicine' down then so be it (just not too many ;))
