Real weight, rewards, inches vs. pounds-some newbie questions!

Just Peachy

Slowly But Surely
Hi all, I've been reading the forum for a little bit now and it's been really helpful. I came across this amazing article: http://www.minimins.com/strugglers-restarters/23697-interesting-article-emotional-eating.html and it actually made me realise that I eat my emotions for pretty much everything. I always knew I did it, but I didn't know it was to that extent.

The article was my motivation as I finally understood what my problem was. I also recently reached a shocking 220 pounds, nearly 16 stonnes and that was shocking to me. I went to the doctor's and I was considered obese in their files, which I never thought I was. It really depressed me when I saw that and shopping's only gotten even more difficult than it's ever been and I love clothes so much, it just sucked. Also been through a tough breakup and basically, so many things have motivated me that I wanna do it, properly this time! Which is why I'm asking experts; you guys hopefully.

I'm keeping track of all my numbers, from sizes to calories but I weighed myself in the morning, before being dressed or having eaten and I was a half a stonne lighter than at night, when I'm fully dressed and have eaten. What then is my real weight?

Also, I don't have a scale here at uni, and I've always found it wasn't an accurate measure for me so I'm going with inches. How much weight does one need to lose aproximately to lose an inch around the waist or anywhere?

I'd also like to establish some sort of reward system because that's motivating. However, I'm a student and I don't have much money to spare. I obviously don't want to reward myself with food. I also buy quite a bit of clothes (not expensive ones) because I'm able to shop cheaply, so that's not a real reward for me cos I do it to make me feel better about myself anyway.. even if that sounds lame. Any ideas that don't cost too much?

What a rant! Thanks for anything you can help out with x

i got weighed at the docs and then bought a scale an hour later - it was 3 lbs lighter on the scale i bought. so i bought a hanson electronic one which gave me what i think was an accurate weight. i weigh in once a week on a sturday morning in my bra and underwear. i think as long as the numbers are going down hough, t doesnt matter whether they were a couple lbs out to begin with. the other way to track ur loss is by measuring yourself. i do my upper arms (add total inches for both), bust (round the fullest part) waist narrowest part) abdomen (widest part) hips and each thigh (add the two) i measure monthly to see a difference. this way water weight or innacurate scales cant make u feel down when really youve achieved something!

i also find a hair cut or a manicure a good reward because they make me thin " well im spending some of the little money i have on my appearance - make it even better by losing more weight!"

i have no idea how much weight takes off in inches - but i find i usually lose more all over inches than lbs so its quite encouraging!!

hope u getting on well and well done on the 4lbs so far! thats great progress!

Yeah, the scale I first weighed myself on and the one are just got are different, hopefully that 4 pounds wasn't a lie. I haven't measure myself yet but I plan to do that after every month or so.

Hair cuts and manicures are a good idea, thanks!

Peachy,

Weigh yourself every morning at the same time (or at the same time on the same day weekly), before getting dressed, eating showering and after going to the loo - this is your true weight.

Everyone loses inches at a different rate so there is no real answer to that but look at it like a stone = a dress size (roughly). For me it was:

13st7 = 14
14st7 = 16
15st7 = 18
16st7 = 20

So I am aiming to be a size 10 when I'm finished but if at 11st7 and a size 12(hopefully!) I look and feel fit and healthy enough, I wont bother going that extra stone!

You could reward yourself with a relaxing bath on weigh in day if you've lost where you really pamper yourself (face masks etc)? Or for every pound you lose, put a pound away in a jar and when you've lost all your weight buy something nice? (For me it will be a gorgeous handbag or shoes - £80!)

I hope this has helped!

Chocolate cat, thanks for the "real weight" tips, I'll try that tomorrow.

I think I can afford a quid for each pound. Went out to look for a piggy bank but couldn't find one :(

You size guide looks about right, I seem to fit in there anyway. I just thought that I wasn't allowed to buy new clothes until I fit into a different size. That's really gonna be an incentive for me as I love my clothes lol.

Well done on your first 8 pounds :)

Thanks, I was doing CD for that though so cannot take the credit! but it was a good boost :)

Getting new trainers & running shoes this week as a treat for being so motivated with my exercise goals :)
