What if the Dr stops LL??

Hi all,

I went to see my Dr this morning ~ I had an MRI scan on 21st Dec as I have a very painful knee. Basically, my Dr told me to lose weight and it would ease up back in the summer. I have now lost over 4 and a half stones and it's still painful so am awaiting the results.

Anyhow, the same Dr has just weighed me and said " I think you're losing too much ~ you need to slow down".

It feels as though he has only just realised I have been seriously committed to losing weight and, even though he signed me onto LL, he didn't really take much notice until he has noticed the big losses every time he sees me.
I told him I am still not at a healthy BMI for my height...he asked what I was aiming for????? I said it's between 18 and 25 isn't it? He then said, ok, when you get to 25 that's it, you need to stop.

I feel a bit put out as I can't do right for wrong! I am a size 14 now and don't know where I will feel comfortable at, but my Dr actually said to me " If you lose any more, you could start going the other way"! As though I am getting obsessive or swaying towards unhealthy habits.

What do I do if he refuses to sign my ongoing forms or takes me off before I am ready? ( I have to have my blood pressure checked at the surgery as I have ongoing medication). I have worked so hard and didn't expect my GP to um and ahh about LL. :(

Thanks.

hi there
it sounds as if your doc does not really know about LL - its the sort of comment you get from people who don't understand the diet.

next time you go take in some literature about LL for him to read - ask your LLC.

you can get your bp done at asda or a chemists so don't actually need to see your GP for that. unless your doc gives you a medical reason to stop ie that it is harming your health- which it doesn't seem as if he has - and you still feel OK, then i wouldn't worry too much

oops - sorry just seen that you need to go to the docs for your bp, didn't see that before.
in another month you will hopefully be about a stone smaller so i would just wait til, then to see how you feel - you may be bmi 25 and happy by then anyway.

Ask your LLC for advice - or can you see another doc at the surgery, find out when it is your docs day off?!

Hi love, don't fret!

25 is the top of the "normal" healthy BMI. A lot of doctors will err on the side of caution.

If he becomes adamant, and cannot give you a reason that satisfies you - you can always get your blood pressure checks done at a pharmacy. Doctors give advice - but you have the ultimate control.

However - do listen to what he has to say and why, and if it is sound advice, then of course, give it full consideration.

At the end of the day, you have full control over your life and body - don't for a minute forget that. :)

xx

Thanks ladies ~ I will take more literature for him daisy, I did at the beginning but perhaps he didn't think I was serious.

And thanks aswell BL ~ I do listen to him, but know myself I have been a happy size 12 for much of my adult life so I hope I at least get to that before he decides I have taken it too far.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. xx :)

oh laydee, sorry to hear your Dr is being like this, I can imagine how worrying it is. I can only say what others are and that is that you are only aiming for a healthy bmi and he does seem a little ignorant about the diet.
Hope it sorts it self out for you x
