Serves 4-6
Free on Green

  • 225g chick peas
  • 850ml water
  • 1/2 inch fresh root ginger, peeled and grated
  • 1 large waxy potato, peeled and cut into 4cm cubes
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder (optional)
  • 1-2 fresh gree chillies, slit lengthwise into halves, seeded for milder flavour
  • Frylight
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 garam masala
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp fresh mint or 1 tsp dried mint

Directions:
  1. Soak the chick peas overnight in plenty of cold water. Rinse several times and drain well.
  2. Put the chick peas, water and ginger into a saucepan and place over a high heat, bring to the boil, cover the pan and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until the peas are tender.
  3. Add the potatoes, cumin, turmeric, chilli powder and the green chillies, and the mint. If you're using dried mint, bring it to the boil again, cover the pan and simmer for a further 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
  4. Spray a frying pan with frylight and fry the onion until they are lightly browned. Stir this into the chick peas along with the salt and gram masala.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the lemon juice and fresh mint.
Serve this with rice or have it with some pita bread, but if you have it with pita add SYNS

Small pita 3.5 sins on both days

Large pita 7.5 sins on both days

I know I'm not a member of slimming world, I will be very soon though and I want to get into practise. So I thought I would go and have a go at submitting a recipe and stating what is what, syns, HEX's ect.

So please feel free to tell me if I've gone wrong anywhere :)

Now that seems like a recipe right up my street
will amend it a little as there is a spice there I am not keen on

thanks for posting with so much info

LOL you're welcome. Yeah I posted previously about certain spices. Even though the book says spices are free, I'm not so sure myself. But I thought I would post this as it seems like a really nice dish to have especially on Green, maybe on extra easy you can have it with beef or lamb :)

Oh my life I am going to try this!! I love curry, and chickpeas will make a change to just vegtables, welcome to the sw world at minimins! I havent been here long and I think without the support of this formum I wouldnt have been able to keep to it so easily so welcome:) xxx

Yasmine spices are all free - use as many as you want
BUT things like curry paste are not free as they are made with oil
so as long as you have a pestle and mortar use those herbs

LOL aww thanks. This site is amazing to keep you focus, there are so many people on here who are amazing!

I hope all is going well for you on SW. By the way, this meal should be totally free on extra easy, you can add some lamb or beef if you want, I think that would accompany it very well :)
