Someone mentioned making gravy with oxo and water and adding instant mash to thicken so syn free.

I need gravy for xmas dinner and i am only going to be on week 2 so am sticking to plan no matter what!

Can someone give me details on how they do this and if it tastes nice!

I've never tried gravy the smash way, but did make some the other day by boiling up some veg(onions, celery and carrot) in water for a while, then strained it and added a knorr stock pot, stirred until dissolved then took it off the heat and added a few spoons of quark, mixxed well then gently heated again for 5 mins. It thickened it up really well and I couldn't taste the quark in at all. It was really yummy.

Would you not think of synning some gravy granules??

I always make my gravy this way. Just crumble an oxo cube, add water, or veg stock, then add smash spoon by spoon, til it thickens. Beware adding too much smash at first. You can always add more. I find if you microwave it a bit, the smash expands further still, so although it might seem watery, once its heated in the M/wave, it soon thickens up. Halve the quantities if this makes too much gravy. My husband has been having this for ages, I havent told him, & he's not noticed the difference yet!

We all have things that are worthy of our syns and if i can do free gravy then i know where i shall be spending mine.

THANKS cornishpisky - this will save me some syns on xmas dinner and elsewhere!!!!

Ooooh...sounds interesting. Will have to give it a go. I have to say that the gravy recipe I saw on Jamie Oliver seemed fairly good...wonder how many syns that would be. I can't seem to find the recipe either...the one on the website is not the one from the programme. Grrr!
