Hi folks,

Im new and find this website absolutely fantastic - everyone is so supportive and the before and after pictures I had a nose at are really so inspirational - I think that this site could really help be achieve my goal, is it ok if I keep a diary here?

I have never ever been small - but REALLY piled on the weight when pregnant with my little girl (now 18 months) - 5 stone!!!!!!! (or 70pounds) - to be honest, I used my pregnancy as an excuse to eat my way through most of the restaurants and take aways in Ireland!!.

So, in the 18 months, ive tried to start many different diets, many different times and obviously failed. Ive actually just continued to gain and gain and am now a whopping and very unhealthy 18 stone!!!!!! (5 foot 9 inches)

I feel awful - both physically and mentally.
I feel sluggish and tired, my knees are actually beginning to really hurt me under all the weight.

Mentally - I have absolutely no confidence - well I never really did but now its at an all time low. dont like going out (at night), feel uncomfortable in my own skin, its effecting everything...

So........ on a postive note its time for a huge change!! I feel really determined THIS TIME - I am getting married August 2008 and really dont want to look back at the photos in disgust - this is obviously a huge incentive!!.

Im a doing WW at home - (not going to meetings as really dont have time - work full time - have little girl and study) but have all the information, points and books that I need and figured that this site can be my support.

Im only on day 3 - im allowed 26 points a day and eat about 23. I exercise for half an hour ( x crosser and rowing machine at home) but home to build this up as I become fitter.

cross your fingers for me - please!

Oh, and I also meant to ask - is it possible to loose 6 stone in 1 year with Weight Watchers, determination and exercise... or is that ridiculous?

Thank you x

Marie, thank you so much for replying. You've given me a little boost - I never thought of it like that:
I would say that 6st over a year is definitely achievable, that amounts to just over 1.5lb per week!
that makes it so much more reachable.

I think ive out done myself a little - stood on the scales and am 17st (eek) (but better than 18) so came to the conclusion that scales is broken (everytime I stand on it im a different weight - and not a few pounds after eating etc... stones!) so will buy one tomorrow. (will promise to TRY not obsessively weigh myself)

Find this really quite easy to be honest (God, hope I didnt jink myself there) - but cant eat all my points each day (not able) and am always full (cant be bad!!)

That horrible, yucky bloated feeling has gone - I used to wake up feeling awful, swollen, headachey but found I could get up this morning quite happily (more energy?) (know its only day 3 - would I be feeling this already or just getting carried away)

Does anyone know anything about how much water to drink? - I hear soooo much conflicting advice...
sense would tell me to drink loads and ive read before that it can give you a "full feeling" (which I do find) and can increase your metabolism by 3% (if drinking loads)
but then I have heard that drinking too much can dilute your kidneys!!! and get rid of too many nutrients from your system!!

Im drinking about 6 litres a day!! - is this way too much??? xx

Hi Nikki and welcome to Minimins and the WW forum.

A diary is a brilliant idea, as youll have probably noticed, a few of us have them. I found it a bit hard to start with but now wouldnt be without it. I probably bore the pants off people at times but hey it helps me lol

Id say 6 stone in a year IS achievable :) Ive lost 36.5lbs in 12 weeks - and if I can do it, well anyone can lol

You'll find the help and support on here is second to none, theres always someone there to help if youre stuck. cheer if youve done well or kick you up the backside if thats whats needed.

Look forward to hearing more from you soon

Girls,

Thank you all so much for your kind messages. I really, really appreciate it.

Marie, I think your right. Realistically, I think dont think its too much. Surely, good for you?! you know how it is, you will ALWAYS hear known healthy things are bad for you, for example, Ive heard that organic veg is bad for you LOL!!

Starlight - I had a peak at your diary before but am going to have a proper read now - found it really motivational - you must be so proud of yourself - thank you for posting it.

Hiya and welcome, just wanted to congratulate you on starting your diet, (It took me 4 years to get my act together after piling baby weight on!!! So good on you:D . With regards to the amount of water you are drinking, I would say cut that down to 3 litres. Drinking too much water can affect your electrolyte balance and can cause you some problems, your sodium and potassium levels could be diluted which isnt good:( . Your doing great though and with 2 or 3 litres you will notice fantastic health benifits such as good skin, nails and hair AND you will feel fuller also. Good luck,(I hope I havent scared you but it is worth bearing it in mind)

:) God, no you have'nt scared me at all - thats fantastic - thanks a million for the advice (phew! ALL those trips to the loo will be cut down :D )

Hi Nikki, welcome and congratulations on starting a diary. We are a very supportive bunch and know exactly what you are going through. Good luck with weight watchers, I tried it before and was always getting told off for not eating enough ......! I could hardly ever eat all my points.

Keep us posted on your progress and if you need help just shout and someone will be along to help.

Sonkie, thank you for your support!! God, this is really fantastic. Feel really excited about this site - as you said, people here know how it feels. They dont judge you for being overweight!! :)
I've just done 35 minutes on the cross trainer - I know - its so tiny but im actually really proud of myself   - could only do 20 mins the past 2 nights and found it that little bit easier tonight!! (so unfit  ) but I will build it up!!!! you have done brilliantly (from your weight tracker), cant believe the amount of weight you have lost. Hope I can do same!!

Starlight - dont say that!! Im REALLY enjoying it and picking up a few tips as I go along :) I have'nt read it all just yet - but was wondering (if you don't mind me asking) did you exercise at all with it? you have lost sooo much weight in such a small space of time - was wondering is that all down to weight watchers or were you on one of the other diets beforehand?

Thank you girls xxxx

Hey 35 minutes blimey that is good going I can only do about 5 minutes, though its more than I used to do....lol. I have done well with my weight loss, but it could have been so much better as I have been picking on and off since my brothers accident in Dec. Trying to put it behind me and get back on track.
I would have failed by now if it wasnt for this site, it has been my lifeline.

Hi Sonya
I started ww last night and this is my first day doing the points and I find it hard to use them all I had 6.5 left over after tea but had a fresh fruit salad and creme frais which was 3 points still got 2 left but saving them.

I was told that I had to use all my points or the weight loss wouldnt be as good, so was encouraged to try extra yogurts etc to bump up the points.

(I stole your ticker idea :) way better than my other one - hope you dont mind) yes, I could really understand how this could become your lifeline... I'm really sorry to hear about your brother's accident - hope everything is ok. :(

Oh God, im sorry, that must be so so hard. Thank God he is here, though. So sad.:(

How are you holding up now?

I dont mind you asking anything from my diary or anything else for that matter :)

Ive only started doing a little bit of exercise the past week or so.

My weight loss so far has been totally down to my diet :) As youll see if you can bear to read it all Ive been really quite focused this time, havent written any days off and have stuck 100% to my points.

I also put a lot of my success down to this forum and the support Ive got from it.

Its great to have another WW person on it :)

aww thank you Starlight - I cant believe how welcome I have been made feel here - usually when you join a site you are a "newbie" for ages and takes so long to fit in.

wow - cannot believe that - you would not believe how much your story is pushing me to do this!! - I was sure you must have been on some other plan. Gonna keep close eye on it.

:) :) :)
