Things you wish people told you about pregnancy and babies

Hi girls,

Thought I would make a topic about "Things you wish people had told you..."

Whether it is about being pregnant, or once baby arrives, no matter how silly you think it is i GUARANTEE some of us don't know it and it will be great advice...

My first one is that sometime even now, I can't feel baby at all, but it's just asleep and that's ok, nothing to worry about.

Little boys need their "mister" pointing down into their nappy otherwise they pee out the top all over their bellies.

Don't expect baby not to pee as soon as the fresh air hits their bits when you tak their nappy off.

Don't take your Iron tablet just before bed as I was awake all night when i did!

oh and that my boobs would wake me up aching in the night!

Make the most of any comfortable sleep/energy you might have in 1st or 2nd trimester....even when you are not that big you'll find your bladder is unforgiving!

Get used to getting up at least a couple of times(or 5) in the night.

Don't think that just because you've not put on in the first few months that you won't in the last trimester.... I have put on 17lb in 17 days this month....and then lost 10 lb of that (I am retaining a freaky amount of water).....but obviously not everyone does.

Try not to get freaked out if your boobs have never spouted milk before, you may find later in your pregnancy that not only are your boobs bigger and achy, but they may start producing leaking

Great idea for a thread! I am interested in anything that already Mums can say about caring for a new born....or even the birthing process

lol
someone once told me (my old boss after a few drinks..) that no one told her that her 'bits' wouldn't go straight back to 'normal' after giving birth - that it would take time and she'd bleed... she had NO idea till she had her little one! lol
I was about 19 when she told me and a friend this.. we were like rabbits in headlights in fear I think but it stuck in my mind! lol I was 'prepared' with disposable knickers and pads when I had Erin and thank god I was!! lol I sat in the loo thinking of my old boss from like 8 years before! lol

Other than this.. it's NORMAL to CRY your eyes out for no blooming reason during pregnancy, after birth etc etc..

That men actually DO find pregnant women attractive - well in my exprience anyway. lol

Oh and there will be times when we all feel like crap parents, can't do it, can't cope, bla bla bla.. which again.. all completely normal! :D

After the week we've had, to trust your instincts. As mums we know our babies and our bodies best, so if you feel that somethings wrong, it probably is.

PH lol i didnt even think of that, hope i dont have alien bits!!

Angie, getting rest is an esential one! my weekend was spent up all night with an aching back and not being able to sleep!

Back at work today and feel like iv been hit by a bus!

this is going to sound hilarious, but that most people poo whilst giving birth. i found that out and now it's the thing i'm dreading most!! ha. but i have plenty of time to get used to the idea. the thought of not having known it was a possibility going into the delivery suite makes me cringe :D

ill have to have a think Ihave to say my little boy who is now 3 only peed onme twice where as this little one does it everytime I take the nappie off lol I used to think people were joking when they said little boys pee on you I though my little boy dosnt't lol
I have had to birhts now and not had a poo your body seems to clean itself out and prepare before the event so if your lucky you wont lol
get as much rest as you can while pregnant the sleepless nights are the worst .i feel great now lo is here and not had a nap once so glad the tireness has gone .
do not worry abou the weight gain it will soon come off after the birth with a healthy diet and your body will return to normal

lol well heres a 'tip' for those with boys if cold air makes baby pee...
Bippity Boppity Baby -pee pee teepees for the sprinkling weewee!

Or.. you could just let the cold air at them gradually and keep nappy in place for a bit longer with air going in gradually...
I remember seeing my my getting pee'd in the face by a baby boy.. funniest thing in the world! lol I was 15 at the time! lol

lol yes i peepunder the nappie then quickly put it backover if something is pointing my way lol

breastfeeding has to be learnt by baby and MOM!! it can hurt its hard work but it gets better and lots easier :) (just stopped bf'ing at 14.5months)
dont let people tell you how to look after your baby!
each baby is different, a strict routine doesnt work with all children.
you really dont need all the things in the catalogue, most things can be brought cheap second hand or at an nct nearly new sale if you REALLY want it
buy the pushchair of your dreams, anything less and you will always want better (im now on my 3rd, finally the pushchair i always wanted)
your not a bad parent if you get stressed, everyone has those days, put baby in bed and go relax for 5 mins

I wish I'd been told I'd lose my sense of humour some days and I'd just get ticked off at every little thing. I'm far too over sensitive these days, but apparently that's normal. I have been told by MANY mothers to be that it's something happening to them also, they get offended at things and are more sensitive at stuff more than they would have been before they got pregnant.
So if you're feeling totally crappy and mood and completely over sensitive, it's normal and you'll hopefully be back to normal soon. :)

As for the pooing thing, you'll probably not feel it and the nurses won't make a big deal out of it if it does happen. :) xxx

i never poo'd in the delivery suite, but no one warned me that even if you dont have stitches how much it stings when you pee in the first few days-a dose of cystitus seems like a picnic by comparrison!!

And dont beleive anyone who says the 2nd ones are easier-THEY ARENT!!!
