Help me be good!

Fallen Angel

Starting again!!
Hi all,

My OH and I have been put in charge of the starter for Xmas Day at my FIL's.
OH's agreed to help me make it syn free/low syn (though we're not going to tell the others ;) ) but my minds gone blank!
We're thinking of doing a tapas/party food type starter so people can eat as much or as little as they like before the main meal (they'll be 8 adults & 2 children).
Saw the spring rolls in one of the recent magazines but think they may be too difficult to make.
Might do smoked salmon pate (in quark) on krisprolls for one but can anyone help me with easy/quick bits to throw together pls?

Thanks!

Hmm, yes forgot about those! :) Thanks

The spring rolls are not as hard as they look and delicous!

I also have made some prawn wontons in a similar way with filo pastry and delicous will look for the recipe served them to non slimming friends and they were very popular.

I will look for the recipe

How about SW friendly stuffed eggs and tomatoes, melon slices wrapped in parma ham and/or SW friendly dips served with veg crudites?

Ok this is from a WW friendly site so not 100% sure of the syns and don't have time to wor it out. But on EE you would only be synning the filo pastry or bread for prawn toasts.

I am glad i looked at htese again i think I will do them for christmas eve supper.

FISHY CHINESE STARTER

To make the PRAWN TOAST, chop some prawns and mix with an egg white and seasoning.
Spray a baking tray with frylight spread some prawn mixture on slice of WW bread sprinkle a few sesame seeds on top, spray again - bake in hot oven until crispy, cut into 4 triangles

To make the PRAWN WONTONS, use the same prawn mixture but add some finely chopped spring onion and a drop of soy sauce.
Cut piece of filo pastry into four, put spoonful of mixture in centre spray with frylight and gather up topinto little parcel, spray again and bake until crispy. = (4 wontons would be 1 1/2 syns i think !)

To make CRAB SPRING ROLLS, mix chopped crab sticks, spring onions, grated courgette, grated carrot and beansprouts together season, add a little soy sauce.
Cut filo pastry into 4 , spray wrap mixture in pastry, spray and bake until crispy. ( 4 ROLLS 1 1/2 i think)
To make larger ones for a meal use half a sheet of pastry ( 0.5 point = 2 rolls)

I did find that they crisp up a little better if you put them on a grill rack before putitng them on baking tray

How about Tzaziki...
quark, little milk form allowance, grated cucumber, fresh garlic, salt pepper and paprica
mix quark & milk till smooth, then add grated cucumber & garlic, season with salt, pepper & paprica powder to taste.. best made the night before gives the garlic the kick ;O)
Its a great dip, with olives fresh veg, prawns or chicken pieces.
And its free!!!!! Hope this helps

take a cucumber, cut into pieces about 1 1/2 inches thick (or a bit bigger if you want), scoop out the seeds, mix some prawns, or tuna, or chicken, egg etc with some seasoned 0% greek yogurt (I use chilli powder and a bit of garlic) put mixture into middle of cucumber garnish with a twist of lemon and tuck in. Looks lovely, has no syns (on EE) and isn't filling so plenty of room for mains.

Not tried this, in fact I've only just thought of it, so apologies if it doesn't taste nice!!!!

How about using Ryvita minis (1 bag=hex b) and putting on quark/laughing cow and topping with smoked salmon/bacon etc...

Wow thanks for some fab idea's guys! :D

on come dine with me the other day, they did a starter which was pears halved and cored, then crumble stilton and mix with cottage cheese, stick cheesy mix into pears... voila! easy, sw friendly, and a bit gorgeous!

oooh! I know my OH & FIL like blue cheese! Winner! Thank you very much :)
