Moaning Thread

Ok so i'm at work, had terrible nights sleep this week, and i'm starting to get a headache.

So I felt really positive this morning as was applying for 6 jobs and getting a great buzz off of it, until i open up my hotmail and.................................................. 3 rejections one after another!

Now I'll be jobless as of march, never had a permanant job only ever temp work, and my expirience, references, C.V and cover letter are perfect ( i used to be a tutor for a subsidary of the central government who dealt with long term unemployed and i would write there c.v's cover letters and application forms) and i know they are!

I was told my current postion was temp to perm so kept my fingers crossed that it would go perm. but hasn't and my big boss hasn't even got the courage to tell!! spineless pig!

So i have started this the moaning thread...................................... so go on have a moan!! it does the world of good!!!!!

Chin up, something will come along for you, just don't let it get you down. It's so dissapointing when things don't pan out the way we want them too, but sometimes something even better comes along. Keep trying and don't give up.

I know that this won't help, but my Dad used to say "what's for you won't go past you". Keep trying, you WILL get the job you want.

Honey - is it definate that the current role won't become perm? If your big boss hasn't said it isn't to your face, is there a chance that it's still a possibility?

All I can suggest is what I'd do in this situation: arrange a meeting with the big boss and simply be upfront. Explain that March is looming and that you would like to know if there is a chance that you could be kept on to allow you a fair chance in finding other work (if they have not told you yet and didn't plan to, that's not fair given current climate). If they say no, ask WHY. Get some answers prepared for what they could say. As in, if they say they cannot afford to keep the role open, and your role is making them a profit or giving them a business benefit that outweighs your salary, ask if this is not considered. If they say it's based on performance, just say there is enough time to improve your skills and ask them where you can progress to meet what they want. Also (if applicable) point out that they could have highlighted this earlier to give you more of a fighting chance to be kept on - it's their duty as an employer to give guidance and such to their staff.

Don't be defensive or off with them, but do make it clear that you're keen to stay - it's worth a try isn't it?

There is a good chance you've done all of this already anyway - but it's worth a second go maybe? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I hope it works out for you xxx

If there is still a possibility that your current job could become permanent don't lose heart just yet. My last job was temporary (3 days) and I was sitting on the strongroom floor on the last day and the boss came in and asked me if I wanted to stay - 7 years later I was still there.

Fingers and everything else crossed for you.

We have tried to get a meeting with my boss, and he said he was "uninterested in trying to save reception" and that " we are only agency workers and who ever told us we would have a permanant postion has lied"

I couldn't even get a chance to have a proper meeting with him as he doesn't have the time, so thing happen atleast i have a job till march

That's a total disgrace and it sickens me that people like that can get manager positions...it happens a lot I know, but it's so frustrating! Grrr!

Sorry that you're facing this hun - just keep firing CVs out to all and sundry and try not to be too down. I know this is easier said than done though - but I'm keeping fingers crossed for you xxx

Thanks hun!

The bit that really annoys me is that he isn't just my manager he is the head of 2 departments!

but anyway the fact he eats with his mouth open makes me feel a little better knowing he may be a big boss but i have table manners!!

haha

xx
