I'm either very brave, or very very stupid!!

Hi everybody (said in Dr Nick Riviera voice) :sign0144:
I joined my local Slimming World group last night and I have never met a lovlier, cooler, crazier group than those lovelies last night! The consultant said I was very brave for signing up right before xmas. I don't know if I'm being brave or totally nuts. Either way, I'm tackling my weight now rather than have anything up to an extra stone to lose in January!
I'm quite excited at the thought of starting this diet (which I will be doing tomorrow once I've read through all my books) and I'm also very very nervous as I've only ever followed Weight Watchers-and not really lost that much.
But hopefully, with the help of my SWC, and you wonderful people (I've been snooping around since last night! ) I'll be able to get through my first couple of weeks, survive xmas and start 2010 a bit lighter!

Welcome Miss Stella! Glad you took the plunge and joined SW! :) I joined about 3 weeks ago and you wouldn't believe how motivated I am now compared to last month. If you need any help, just shout!

Good luck, it is very exciting especially when you see how much you can eat!

Hi there, Glad to see there is not only me mad enough to start just before Christmas!!!!! but I totally agree that if we didnt start now, we could be battling an extra stone by New Year. Hopefully we'll be half a stone or a stone lighter by then!!
Good luck hun!!! xxx

Good luck Miss Stella. I'm new too (been on the plan 5 weeks) and we have about the same amount to lose. Let me know if I can help with anything.

Hi Miss Stella and welcome to the family! Everyone that posts here is really supportive and helpful! Im on SW too and only started a week or so ago, so you not the only newwie!! If you got any question fell free :D im happy to help!

Funnily enough, our group had quite a few new members join last night! I think it's great! You can put it off until the cows come home, but there's nothing like siezing the the moment and taking action BEFORE even more damage is done!! I joined 6 weeks ago (lost 10lb so far) and I could easily have waited until after Christmas! Now I'm determined to lose weight over Christmas! How square would that be!!!! Teacher's pet or what!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to deny myself treats but I just refuse to stuff my face! Anyway, Christmas dinner itself can be quite healthy if you tone it all down!! And you're allowed a few chocs, and the odd mince pie!! Actually a lady brought mince pie type things to class and they were delish!!! The recipe is as follows:-

Sheets of Filo pastry, cut into large squares! Spray one square with frylight, place another on top (at an angle so it looks like a star), spray that one, place a third on top (at an angle). Place a teaspoon of mincemeat ontop then shape the pastry around the mincemeat to cup it. Make brandy cream by mixing together Quark soft cheese (free on Red, Green and EE), sweetener and a glug of brandy!!

I can recommend them!

Good luck! We're all in this together!X

Whoops I forgot to say that they're 2 syns each. The squares should be about 10 x 10cm and you only need about 2 tbsns brandy per 200g Quark! The average 'full fat' mince pie is worth 10-11 syns (approx 54g).

LOL recipie stealer!!! haha yeah they are good plus for parties, if your the host you can make dinky tiny ones and people love them!!

Welcome to the site!
You are not stupid at all. The 1st time I joined SW was on 12th December 2002. Despite Christmas, I had good losses and even became slimmer of the month.
It's as good time as any to join. Probably even a better time as you can control your eating and reduce any weight gain you may have had without SW.
Good luck and enjoy!

I joined last week! I didn't think about Christmas until midweek. But it's just one day isn't it, and with flexi-syns, it's doable!

Hi Miss Stella, welcome to the slimming world brigade! Like a previous poster said, there is no time like the present and it's true about tackling it now, rather than waiting til after xmas with an extra stone on top (like me usually)

You'll find that you're not actually dieting at all and eating normally. You won't get hungry and you can have naughty treats on top without feeling guilty (unless you're like me and double it lol)

Well anyway, good luck with your weight loss and keep posting. This board is fab. Go have a nose at the recpe section and this thread.....

Welcome - there must be thing about Manchester groups and craziness - my bunch are daft too! Good luck with it all - I found it quite a leap from WW but I'm doing much much better on SW. Have fun with it too - get cooking! x

good luck with it all - our class has a saying:

whats the difference between someone joining now and someone joining in the new year?

answer - about half a stone!

:D

Hi and welcome! I too am new to SW. I am almost at the end of my first week, i have my weigh in tomorrow night and im sooooo excited about it :D.

I did the weight watchers thing too and felt as though i was starving, most of the foods i loved were forbidden (unless i wanted to use my daily point allowance in one meal) and i ended up feeling really weak and tired. So i stopped going.

People have told me about Slimming world and these people are fairly slim so i thought why not give it a go?.

My tip is to try and stay positive even if those chocolates or that bottle of wine is staring at you and screaming your name because when you look at those scales and see a loss you will be really pleased with yourself, plus if you eat the free foods or stick to your red or green days then you can save yuour syns for the chocolate or wine :p.

Good luck!!

I can't believe we can eat so much-I had to ask my consultant how the heck eanyone managed to lose eating all that lot! I'm so used to that starving feeling from when I was on WW!

That's my first mini goal-half a stone lighter by New year weigh in. Hopefully it's not too unrealistic.

Now I'm determined to lose weight over Christmas! How square would that be!!!! Teacher's pet or what!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to deny myself treats but I just refuse to stuff my face!

I don't pig out on food over xmas-it's more the treats and booze (hence the oh so clever user name!) Mum has said she's refusing to waste money on tins of choccies etc-mainly because my dad's just had 100's of £'s of work done to his teeth! :giggle:

I think my main obstacle is going to be getting my head out of counting points. In group last night, the SotW hamper had a mugshots in it and right away I said 'ooh that's 5 points' Must stop it! :banghead:

Ooh I like that. I'm gonna stick that on a few post its and leave them darted about as motivation!

Thanks for your replies everyone, I've got a feeling I'm going to enjoy both this forum and the change to my eating habits :D

Ooh! I think I'm going to make those for my SW party in a couple of weeks - Thank you!

Thanks for the tips! I was the same on WW. There were nights when i was so hungry I literally cried myself to sleep. No wonder I kept falling off and going on week long binges! Well, as of tomorrow, I shall be hungry no more! I'm going to TRY to be patient and count every loss, no matter how small, as a positive thing. Cuz it is! And to be honest, even losing half a lb a week, the group's going to be worth going to for the company. Was the best night out I'd had in a while!

Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow. I'll be eagerly awaitng the result :D
