Hello everyone. Well my name is Kay and I'm 28 yrs old with five children. I am about 5'6 and today I weighed myself and was shocked that it had crept back up to just over 15 and a half stones.

Long story short, I have been overweight pretty much since my teens and just kept getting bigger. When I was 20 I hit my heaviest of about 17 and a half stone but managed to get down to about 15 and a half by the time I met my partner of 7 yrs.

During our first year together I got down to about 11 and a half stone which I was happy at but planned to lose more but then I got pregnant for the first time and it all went downhill from there really. After each pregnancy I put on more weight as I have pretty much had the kids one after the other I never had any time to lose the excess. I had my last baby 8 months ago and feel it is time to lose the weight for good as I know your metabolism slows down the older you get so it will get harder.

I am planning to start my diet tomorrow after my partner weighed himself and he was only a few pounds heavier than me (he doesnt know how much I weight btw) and I know he's been told by his gp that he is obese so it kinda freaked me out that I weigh the same.

Im not sure what to do really. I have calorie counted in the past which kinda worked, even tried Tae Bo which I enjoyed but it fell by the wayside between looking after the kids I was too tired. My main problem is the chocolate, I dont really eat much 'real' food to be honest, I eat breakfast but during the day I just pick at biscuits and chocolate so I know if I can give it up I would lose but I've become something of an addict now!

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. Oh and my primary goal is to get down to at least 10 and a half stone which I know would put me at a healthy weight for my height and would be the slimmest I've been since I was about 12yrs old! In my dreams I would ultimately get down to about 9 stone but I think that might be pushing it lol

Hi Bigmomma! :wavey:

I think the biggest hurdle is realising that you need to change your eating habits. Although if your hubby needs to lose a bit of weight too then it might make it a bit easier?

Hey. The 1st thing I did when I started my diet was to chuck or give away any 'bad' food in the house! Coz I get tempted way too easily to have any kind of treats around. Then stock up on healthy foods and you're ready to go!
Tell your O/H that you want to lose weight together and that way you have his support and he can lose a few lbs too....and you can share the cooking!

My cousin has 5 kids and she finds it quite difficult to find time to go to the gym. So she sticks the youngest kids in a pushchair and goes on long walks with them. She also does things like jump on the trampoline with them, takes them to the park and runs about with them and does workout dvds at home.

Good luck with your weight loss.

You've made the first step, but the second is the hardest. Being in the frame of mind to actually stick to the diet. I, in the , have found that I am not totally determined to lose weight at that point in time than I just won't stick to it.
I recently read something model Kate Moss said , 'othing tastes as good as Skinny feels".
I have adopted that motto, although I have replaced skinny with "my goal weight will feel".
Her words were taken out of context, by the way, but some other things weren't. Anyways enough about her.
Once your mind is in the right place "the diet zone" I call it, then, and only then, will you be ready to stick to the diet. I don't want you to get mad at me over this, but i have been there and done that. Only recently (Sep) did I finally get into the zone and have stuck to it ever since. But, the way I stick to it is different. I follow my chosen diet -to the T- Mon - Fri. On the weekend I go off it and maintain. I don't lose control and go crazy, but I do enjoy the foods I won't eat on my weekday diet. In this way I have managed to lose between 1.5 and 3 pounds each week. So lots of people would say thats bad, but for me it has totally helped me to stick to the diet and lose 27 pounds so far. If you want to know more about how I lost it send me a private message and I'll tell you all about it. Good luck, and don't worry, your time WILL come.:)

Your main options are to go it alone, to join a club like weightwatchers or slimming world, or if you are really dedicated to losing the weight and making a life change consider a VLCD like LighterLife.

I did LighterLife and lost 10 stone in 7.5months earlier this year, and have been maintaining for a few months. The advantages of this approach for me was it was all or nothing (you were either doing it or you weren't, no earning points etc), it was very quick, and most importantly I got group support and counselling to help me figure out where my relationship with food went wrong and how to fix it.

I think you could do with sitting down and thinking what factors will be important to helping you succeed. Do you need group support? Do you need to be able to eat normal food to maintain a social life? Would you benefit from some counselling? Do you want to gradually improve your weight or quickly deal with the issues?
