I had a baby on the 9th September and breastfed until mid October I got my first period 2 weeks ago and it's started again today! I've always been so regular every 4 weeks. I've been taking Xenical for just over 3 weeks now. I've just read the leaflet and it says Xenical can affect periods, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and will it settle?

hi hun not sure if it can effect periods but after having a baby periods can b rather irregular, if your worried u could speak to ur doctor hun, but wen i had my baby i bled then stopped then started and stopped, it took months b4 it got into a routine again, and i wasnt on xenical or anythin else then

A couple of months ago my period was nearly 2 weeks later than I expected and they seem to be lasting longer - I had them down to 3 days and it seems to be more like 5 now.

I assume this is down to xenical.

Although saying that since I started my periods when I was 11 I have missed one period that I can recall and that was even with having a rugby ball sized, water filled cyst in an ovary a few years ago. Neither the cyst nor having the ovary removed affected my cycle. I mean heck being as over weight as I am is supposed to affect your periods but no, not me.

Congratulations on your very new baby, it wa a while ago for me but I remember it being a while until my periods got back to a "monthly" cycle, remember your body has just been through a huge trauma of having a baby it takes tme for things to settle down, also dependant on what if any contraception you are using.
I don't have the dreaded monthly's any more (had a hysterectomy) so I can't help with the usual aspect of them but I'm sure the rest of the girls will give you their take on it.
Good luck on the weight loss.

This is my second and my periods went back to normal straight after my first the only difference this time is Xenical and breastfeeding, I was told my periods might take a while to come back after breastfeeding but I wasn't told they might be irregular which is why I thought maybe Xenical was the reason. I'm using condoms at the moment cos I'm too scared of anything else putting weight on me. I did read through another thread though with peoples views on certain contraceptions so I may rethink that. :)

hey hun!

i breat fed my second child and my periods were v irregular for about 4 months after wards!

I chose to have mirena coli and i really cant give it enough praise. Its the best thing i ever did. I love my 2 soooo much but certainly dont want a 3rd an found this to be the most reliable low maintainance method!

Best thing to do is talk it through with your gp. mine was fab and really understanding about it!
