just a quick thought! my OH and myself were talking about slimming world last nite and we were remembering all the stuff that u could hav years ago(im giving away my age here!)ie campbells meatballs, macaroni cheese, spag bol, tyne chilli, corned beef and we were wondering if u were to revert back to this would you still lose weight? back then(god i sound like old mother time here!) people had great losses!wot do u all think?xx:confused:

I am purely new school, so can't compare the two, but even in the 10 weeks since I have been on SW things have changed.

Seems to be that as science progresses, and also as recipes/ingredients change, SW is pretty quick to change things immediately so we reap the benefit ASAP.

A lot of the reasons things change are because of the nutritonal benefits as apposed to the calorie content. SW try and keep up with the government wanting you to have x amount of this and y amount of that, of course some companies change the recipe so its loads more calories!

If you have access to the site try putting them through the calculatorand adjust the fibre/protein/salt etc., and see what it says :)

Natt xxx

P.S. I'm not an expert so could be talking out my a*s!

There was a penne pasta dish - a ready made meal from Sainsbury. It was lovely, and free. And then all of a sudden it wasn't free after all!

Oh my, I remember the penne pasta dish, I used to eat it at least once a week it was sooo yummy. Then my consultant told us it was something like 13 syns!!! I was devastated, I can't remember eating it ever affected my weight loss though which was weird.

Mmmmm cambells meatballs - I havent had them in years!

It was good, wasn't it? I always had difficulty believing it was free, but they kept insisting that it was! Then - wham - all those syns!!

I was gutted when a few months ago Sainsburys low fat egg mayo stopped being free- it was my favourite breakfast on pagen rolls. I always knew it couldn't really be free (even though it was!) as one of the ingredients was single cream! I now syn it but if you put the values in the syn calculator it still comes up as free- but then the calculator isn't 100%

gutted!

I remember when all those changes came in and that's when 'sins' became 'syns' too. All the changes really sent me off the rails, especially corned beef and Heinz macaroni cheese not being free.
I did't do SW again for a good few years after that.

I think in regards to things like corned beef... these days corned beef (and other foods) are packed full or more additives, sugar, salt etc compared to years ago... they do this so it lasts longer and also so that it will go further if you see what I mean... basically what I'm trying to say is the nutritional content may have completely changed but the name of the item is still the same...

As for other things like the egg mayo... seems a bit odd to me, sounds like they made a mistake in the first place saying that it was free... how could they overlook the fact it had cream? Slimming World HQ hires food scientists and consultants and has enough money to do the research!!!!

maybe u could do a minimins experiment and spend a week having corned beef loaf and this penne pasta dish and see what happens! but dont blame us if u expand please haha

I still have my little purple weigh in book!
I loved the "free" Heinz macaroni cheese and ate loads of it. I was disappointed when it became syned. Have no idea why as they are quite gross really!
Also corned beef. Loved that too!

Me too! I remember a carb overload lasagne recipe with layers of macaroni cheese, lasagne sheets, and spaghetti bolognese, topped with cheese :D Scrummy!

I can remember syns when they were 'sins', and that the meatballs and corned beef was free (back when i was doing SE yonks ago) and the green plan was only for vegetarians and came in a separate book.

We had a temp C recently and she said (cos I asked about corned beef hash) and she said she'd lost loads of weight eating CB often and so in her opinion we could probably still eat it as free with no side effects! (I haven't though)

i remember when stagg chilli was free - the silverado beef flavour i think mmmm

I remember when chocolate was free... oh wait that may have been a dream!

Lmao trust you squiddie and wow congrats just noticed 5 stone well done hun xx

I've just re-joined SW and have taken the time to look into the foods I used to eat on the plan.

I'm devasted about the Campbells (Fray Bentos) Meatballs!!!

10 sins per can!

I used to eat a can of meatballs while waiting for my dinner to cook, and lost loads doing it.

When I first joined fruit wasn't free. You had to have it as a Healthy B which in those days was called 2forU. But I do remember a hi-fibre biscuit called Granny Anns which was also a 2forU
