Week 5 weigh in..not huge, but still 2lbs off!

Hi all, had my 5th weigh in last night and have lost 2lbs. Some may say that`s not a huge weight loss, but I had a huge loss last time (9lbs in a fortnight) so was still really happy with the results. My pharmacist also said that rather than looking at each small weight loss, look at the last few as a whole and you`ll be pleasantly surprised. He`s so right! I also had a general chat with him as nobody else came in for a while, and found it interesting to discover that a minority of people who have lost shedloads of weight (around 8 stone), go away for a couple of years and then come back having gained it all back! To me, that is such a shame, as we all know how difficult sticking to the plan can be at times, not to mention the emotional rollercoaster you go thru` each week while learning to deal with your own food issues.

It got me thinking about how I will cope once I am on my maintenance phase, and how careful I will have to be to NOT let the pounds creep on. I have already got a portion plate to help with portion sizes, but I also realise that eating low fat, low calorie food will also play a huge part in my long term goals. But hey, don`t get me wrong, we all still have to live a little too! So the odd treat and indulgence will defo figure in my life too!

Sorry if this all sounds a bit profound, but would be interesting to hear from other people at target, as to how they are coping with their maintainance, and any stategies they may use. Good luck to you all, have a fab week ahead. x :)

Check out the maintenence forum for tips & ideas from those who are going through it.
You're 100% right that maintaining after LT is another huge battle ahead of us, so re-educating ourselves about good/bad foods & portion sizes is a massive step in enabling is to do so. The best tip I can give you is to plan ahead as much as you can. Try and plan your weekly meals, and if you're going out for the day- find out the food options, and if they're cr*p (i.e. only fast food or something) then pack a nice healthy lunch to take with you. I've sat in McD's with a tupperware bowl of mixed bean salad on many occasions! LOL!
If you do end up eating out, just try and make good choices, and if you really can't then don't worry too much about it- lifes too short! Just be extra good the next few days and all (should) be alright!
A food diary for the first while is great too- before long you'll be able to 'eyeball' a proper portion and how many calories it is, and hten it's only a short step to eating like a 'normal' person! LOL!

Thanks so much for your advice, Irishmum! As you say, plan ahead, which I guess is what I am doing already, even though I still have a way to go yet! This site is so good for people who need advice and support, what would we do without it?! I`ll take on board all your advice. Good luck to you! x :)

No problem hun! All advice will help everyone!
You've half the battle fought, and if you already recognise portion control is an issue for you then you're well on your way! Learn how to balance your meals so the foods you eat will fill you up until the next meal (protein & complex carbs will do this), and have low-cal/fat snacks ready for 'snack-attacks' so theres no need to hit the choccie biccies! LOL! I'm a tea addict and am trying to find something relatively harmless to have with it!! I've found these little lady finger type biscuits that are only 25cals each that are tiding me over, and ryvita's are quite good too, if I'm feeling 'holier-than-thou!':p

Hi i totally agree the maintainance is the hard part. But its good you recognise that alot of people ive spoken to outside this forum seem to tink can just go back to eating like i did before and i keep explaining that this is not a quick fix their are 3 steps involved and it will be a lifetime ting dats why it works. indulgences must be entered into your diet but its about making the right decisions in these indulgences.

Totally agree with Irish planning is key im doin my refeed in 4 weeks and im so prepared but i still feel i shud be more and i will be wen i get there. Gaining is just not an option as i see it this is a change for life im not goin back to being the old me ive come to far and worked too hard to fail.

Well done on your loss and your pharmacist is right its about the big picture.

well done on ur loss hun. 16 sausages :)

yeah think maintaining is the tricky but for most people, its such a shame after getting to goal to think they can eat like before. thats where the problem started in the first place.
personally i feel so positive about refeed and maintaining my weight as i have done all my life with the last 2 yrs exception. i know why i gained the weight and know that will never happen again. i feel so down when im overweight and never wana have that feeling again.

good luck with next wks wi hun

Thanks Anne-Marie and Jenny, just thought it was best to have some kind of plan in place, as I intend to refeed 2 weeks before Christmas, and then restart to lose the last stone or so in January. Saw my mum in law yesterday, who did Lipotrim last year. We had a long chat about maintaining, and to a degree she has found it quite hard at times. She has a lady at work who is always trying to jeopardise all her hard work...she`ll always have food treats on offer, and gets quite funny if my mum in law says "no". Why are some people like that?! But looking to the future is a good thing, and I think as long as we have goals in mind, and keep strong most of the time, with the occasional blip we will win the war in the end!! Take care xx

hi, your right maintaing is the hardest part, especially when wev got people waiting for us to put all the weight back on, iv been off lt for 4 weeks now and to be honest im a little paranoid, iv tended to stick to the refeed plan as i have a lot going on with different nights out so im thinkin if im good with food then the alcohol wont make much difference (im hoping anyway lol)

It says on the info sheet you get off the pharmacist that there will always be people who are trying to sabotage you some out of pure jealousy but others because they dont see a fat person anymore. They dont understand that just because we have lost the weight we still are 'fat' i know this is kinda sad but its so true if we decide to tink that we can eat watever other people eat and stay thin we are living in a fairytale.

We will always face obstacles but im hoping that after a while we wont be struggling we will automatically know the correct healthy response. Its about knowing your weaknesses and dancing all over them that is in essense wat everyone on lt is doin. we are saying i will not be ruled by food anymore.

You will be fine just remember that maintaining is the hard part and once your prepared its half the war fought. :):):):)

Melly I think that's just bloody fantastic! I absolutely love your attitude girl, it's great. It's great that you're already thinking about maintaining. Pre planning and sorting your issues out with food is the key to this diet.

I have more than 8 stone to loss, and I will never ever put it back on. I'm a stubborn beatch, and if I set my mind to something I have to complete. I could not live with the feeling of failure. So I'm more determined to lead a healthy life more than anything I've ever done. LT has taught me so much about myself, it's better than any shrink! My whole household has changed. I adore cooking, and everything I prepare in here is healthy and nutritious. My family has become fit and healthy because of me being on LT, everyone has benefited and are so grateful. This is the way things will continue for the rest of our lives. It's routine now, so it's all part of my preparation.

Oh and congratulations on your loss! Here's to another great week!

Thanks so much Anne-Marie and Betsy!! You girls are doing soooo well! Congratulations!
I just think to myself, why put yourself through this highly restricted but highly effective diet, to come off it and gorge, put weight on, feel guilty, get depressed, eat more, and go through this whole soul destroying vicious circle again and again? What the heck is the point in that??!! So instead, I feel it is best to PLAN PLAN and PLAN some more so this DOESN`T happen, ever again!! This may sound perhaps a little arrogant, and even a bit unrealistic, but I don`t care. I have spent far too many years feeling unhappy and hating the way I look, I`m not wasting another minute. Really, life`s just too short! Well done again, you must be so proud of yourselves!

I feel exactly the same way i get SO annoyed wen people say but wat bout keeping it off you will just gain it all back i feel like shaking them and saying you tink i want to be FAT???????? You think i want to EVER feel the way i did again???? you tink ive restricted myself for 3 months to erase all my hard work???? oh bugs the crap out of me. I know some people do not maintain its a fact of life but i do not have failing in my vocabulary this is it i am staying thin FOREVER haha!

Im a freak wen it comes to planning i have read every refeed and maintainance thread from page 1 to the end i have researched everything to be prepared coz i cant fail at this. Ive worked too hard.

You will do the same planning is key to this and if you dont set yourself up for failure you wont fail. Yes of course there will be blips but its about getting over them and moving on and not keep making the same mistakes. We will do it ive no doubt.

Sorry if this was a bit intense im wrecked tired and a bit weird and insane wen im tired haha! off to bed now i tink. :):)
