Shoeboxes - Operation Christmas Child

Anyone on here doing the Shoebox appeal this year? I always seem to send the same things, so I'm looking for some inspiration! Would a bag of marbles be ok for a boy? Such a shame you cant send things like bubbles, cos kids love those...

What things are you putting in your boxes?

Hi im doing a girl 5-6 yrs packed hair clips, tissues, small comb brush, nail vanish, bag of sweets, notepad an pen.x

I wouldnt do marbles what age?

I am too. Prob a girl 5-6. I always put in toys, note pad and pencils. Last year we also put in soap, flannel and a tooth brush

Hi Shanny, I do a boy & a girl, this year same ages as you 5 - 9. I thought as marbles are solid, they surely couldnt hurt, & no risk of putting them in their mouths at that age. Funny isnt it, girls are (as usual!) no problem. Its boys that are difficult! So far, I have got colouring books & crayons, gloves, superbouncing ball, toothbrush & paste, pencil, eraser & sharpener, bag of sweets, soaps & wax crayons each. Something specifically girly or boyish always seems to elude me, & I end up doing the same old things every year (toy cars & hair clips etc!)

I think Id be put off marbles incase they had a younger sibling. Having seen the hassle my brother had taking them off my niece because her little sister was still at the stage of putting everything in her mouth I wouldnt wish that on anyone lol

Would be a shame for them to get them, then get them confiscated....

I usually do the box for the mummy, I expect they dont get too many as lots do them for the kids. I would put some Top Trump cards or football cards in or small bouncy balls. Whatever you put in they will love it.

I did a girl aged 5-7 and put in hair clips, headband and hair bobbles, cuddly toy, Disney Princess little purse, Brush, comb and mirror set and a Barbie.

I also did a girl teenager aged 14+ in which I put in a little make up, lip balm and nail varnishes. A pack of make up remover in wet wipe style. Some costume jewellery (necklace and earings) and some toiletries - shower gel, body lotion, face cream, hand cream all in travel size (FCUK).

We loved doing our boxes, we chose the middle age group and did two boys and two girls.

Boys: cuddly toy, whistle, ball, colouring book, crayons, pencils, eraser, sharpener, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste

Girls: Notepad, cuddly toy, makeup bag or little bobble hat, hair clips, pencils, ball, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap.

Usually we have a little cry when we do them, thinking about the children that will receive them. The little video clip of the children opening their presents, on the operationchristmas child website is fab :)
