Opinions please (interior decorating)

Hey peeps,

Ok...so I have a very distinct 'style' when it comes to how I like to decorate my homes. I'd describe it as clean and simple meets Laura Ashley hints. I always colour match things too - the same colour but different shades.

The thing is, recently the estate agent said she loved the way we'd done our flat (she took the viewings around) and said it was really stylish but not what she expected from a 26 year old. And then at my house a friend said 'wow, it's so grown up'. Jim always laughs at me that whenever we do a room it looks like it's fallen from a catalogue (because it's so coordinated).

So...I am worried now! I think my OCD nature is taking over! LOL!

We're just in the middle of doing the bedrooms at the house. In our master room I've gone for a duck-egg blue that is more towards a soft teal. The other walls are pale ivory/cream and the furniture is black stained wood (sounds awful but it's nice!).

I've found dark teal bedding which I loooooooove and the curtains are similar to the wall (had similar scheme in the flat). But I want to inject some random colour clash into the room now to make it less 'cataloguey'.

I was thinking of a hot pink-reddy colour? What do you think? I always have lots of cushion thingies on the bed so thought of adding a few in the other colour, and then maybe a couple of photoframes against the black furniture.

I keep trying to find the right shade of pinky-red but am struggling. Any other suggestions? Green is out - the OH banned too much green from the house because my flat was very green orinetated lol xxxx

That sounds lovely

We have a similar colour scheme downstairs. The music room/CDC/work room is kind of an lightish aqua, with mid grey carpet and blinds. Black gloss piano and black, teal and grey files on the bookshelves.

The lounge has a similar shade on the walls, but a beige/cream carpet (nightmare). The smallest wall (owing to the large double doors) has dark brown wallpaper with a flower pattern the same colour as the other 3 walls. Furniture is beech in that room

My splash of colour is a flower arrangement in bright orange in a brown vase. Looks good.

Red or pink would also look good, even possible yellow. Even if your DH did agree to green, I think it could be difficult to get the exact right shade to make it work. There'd be a fine line between bold/carefree and OMG what on earth did you do there

LOL agreed! Though, weirdly when I was in Dunelm Mill (other stores are available lol) I held the bedding up to some weird shades of green and it worked. BUT OH will k*ll me dead lol.

I'm not going to put too much colour in that contrasts, just enough to tie in. I am loving the idea of pinky-red too, just need to get the right shade.

P.S Uber jealous of the black piano - I have an electric Arius Yamaha in boring brown :-( xxx

I've got Teal, Cream (not through choice) and Chocolate brown, pink, gold, purple or even more shades of blues and browns also looks good with the colours.

I know the feeling as unfortunately we can't paint our house and are stuck with Magnolia walls and whatever carpet we are given so I try to inject as much colour and personality as possible.

My fave at the mo is to get plain canvases and either paint them or if you can find wallpaper you like cover them with stirps of it and use them as wall art, much cheaper than shop brought ones.

I bought some blank canvasses but haven't yet started them - and I agree, it's better than buying them because they're unique (and cheaper)

I think we're using our room to hand four prints we bought last year (not yet framed, we are officially rubbish lol) but defo using canvasses in the large spare room. Love the idea of wallpaper use Thanks xxx

I want a teal coloured polo neck.

I think a bright fuchsia pink goes very well with duck-egg blue and teal. Not too much of it, just as an accent colour. Maybe a throw or cushions.

I think your colour schemes sound lovely. And if being coordinated makes you happy - go for it!!!
