Bit confused with Syns

I have just started SW on the Extra Easy, now the syn values chart they give you to print out via the website has values for Green and Red days, but these are times the same and sometimes different. So how do I know what the syn value is on EE

You just take the lower syn value. Say that you pick something that has 6 syns on a red day and 3 on a green day, you put down youve had 3 syns. HTH.xx

Sometimes it can be 6 on a red due to potatoes in it, and 3 on a green due to the meat content, then free on EE. So sometimes things can ahve syns on red and green and be free on EE. IYSWIM

So how do I know if its free or not, its soooo confusing

Can you give some examples because I'm not sure this is right or maybe I've misunderstood.

If something is free on red its free on EE.
If something is free on green its free on EE.
Otherwise take the lower of the red and green syn values on EE.
