Diuretics (water tablets) are frequently used for the treatment of mild to moderate high blood pressure (hypertension). It is advisable for the doctor to stop a customer's diuretic medicating before the Cambridge Diet is begun.
The effect of the two together would not only cause too much water to be lost with the risk of dehydration, but more importantly - the loss of an important body salt, potassium.
Potassium - an electrolyte - stimulates muscle action, and to much loss could affect the heart.
When prescribing diuretics doctors usually monitor a patients potassium levels or prescribe potassium sparing medication.
