What excerises do people like? What is the best for boosting weight loss?..

I have been doing wii cardio workout... It's a boxing workout and is really quite fun.. shattering tho lol..

Any other suggestions? I don't like gyms as I hate being the fatty lol.... also hate the fees!

Hiya

I do Wii Fit, Sport Active and cross trainer (all at home) - in fact, I'm aiming to do 100km on the cross trainer before Christmas as a mini target.

I keep saying that I MUST start to do some exercise lol
We have a Wii Fit, and a boxing cardio game as mentioned above but I never get motivated to actually do them on a daily basis.

I know that Gymophobics have an offer on, £50 for three months - the Hull one is quite nice, friendly and a nice mix of women (it's ladies only)...but I'm still thinking that my local leisure centre might be better value for money

I'm probably not the best person to ask (I absolutely love going to the gym, sadly, haha) but if you could find a cheap gym, I assure you that you wouldn't be seen as 'the fat one!'

I was amazed to see how many different people go to my gym, there really is such a mix of big people, small people, old people, young people and so on 'n' so forth! Nobody really seems to care what everyone else is upto, they're far too interested in pumping iron, ahem, or just having a go on the treadmill. ;) Haha. :D

I agree! It's like swimming - people worry about what everyone will think of them in their cossie but in reality everyone is far too busy worryng about themselves to pay attention to you!

All sorts of folk go to my gym. Before and after work, and at lunchtimes you get the people coming from their work. Mid morning you might get older folk and weekends the families come in to use the pool. You see all ages and shapes of people and if anything they will be more likely to respect you than look down at you because they can see you're doing something about your weight.

i think it's important to do some weight training in addition to your cardiovascular exercise. The CV exercise is great for burning calories but you need the weight training to tone up and muscle tissue burns more calories than fat even in the course of normal daily activities.

Most gyms will offer some sort of free introductory session where you can go and go and get a feel for the place. So why not try some of your local gyms and see which has the best atmosphere.

Thanks for all the gym suggestions... might consider it in future :)

JestersTear, the boxing workout on Wii is really good at heping keep you motivated, you get a date stamp on the games calendar every day you workout and the more you do the more points you earn (points unlock new exercises/songs/etc.)... it's the only one i've managed to stick to lol..

I hadn't thought of swimming... Just asked my partner if (once I'm a bit thinner) he would teach me to swim lol... I'm 24 and can't even doggy paddle hehe....

I hardly do any proper exercise! I do occasionally hula hoop and I have got a stretchy arm pully thing that i sometimes do when sitting on the sofa watching the soaps lol.

Poweris3, woulnt worry about not being able to swim hun! My OH is 30 and he cant swim either. Its nothing to be ashamed of.

Thanks Sarah-Jayne... I'm looking forward to learning... resisting the urge to buy an adult sized rubber ring tho lol :) xx

I actually learned to swim when I was about 30 after I started to lose weight. you'd be surprised how many people can't swim. I went to an adult class at the local baths and would recommend that over getting your other OH to teach you - that'd be like driving lessons and we know how well that works ;) Seriously, learning to swim gave me a huge confidence boost and was a major influence on my joining the gym.

Amy - which gym do you go to, is a small local one, or a national company?

It's a national company - JJB which is now becoming DW Sports & Fitness or something similar but that's a nationwide thing too!

I generally go either in the day due to working a late shift and that's when the older people are there - although there are exceptions or around 4pm and that's generally when it's a total mix of people. :)

I've only been on it about twice since we got it. I really will get back on it after I get over this dental surgery

Hi

This Wii boxing cardio workout you do ... is it a game in itself, or part of another game? I'm quite interested in trying it myself :)

I cycle when it's dry and I have time, and tbh I think that REALLY helps with the weight loss, but otherwise I do the Wii fit (mainly the various step programs, jogging, boxing and hula hooping). I also have the Wii personal trainer disk but haven't tried it yet.

As for swimming, I am one of those definitely guilty of feeling too embarrassed about my body to go swimming, but it's mainly kids that put me off. If I could be guaranteed no kids I reckon I could brave it. Maybe.

I do EA Sports Active, I've done 2 x the 30 day challenge, and whilst it hasn't helped my weightloss much my measurements have really shrunk!
I also have My Fitness Coach. Teresa uses it alot, but I'm not really keen.
I got Newu the Fitness First one. It targets other muscles from EASA. I'm doing the Pilates and Drop a dress size programmes. A bit too many pressups for me! (I can't do them!) and the trainers, (they are in video not a virtual trainer) are abit cheesy, but I can really feel my adductors and abs today!
They all work if you do them! I've gone from complete couch potato to doing 5 days a week. I feel SO much better for it and my shape has totally changed! And I save money on the gym and petrol!
