Frustrated

I'm getting a bit fed up at the moment, have been doing this for about a month and the weight loss is going well, but I seem to be accidentally gradually going over my syns limit more and more. For example, today I had a can of Baxters healthy choice tomato and lentil soup for lunch, thinking that should be a safe option, but I looked it up on the SW website and it turns out to be 10 syns a can! The ingredients listed were all free foods apart from honey so I thought it would be pretty low. I know I should have checked before but sometimes I don't feel like going on the pc and signing in to the website etc just to look up one thing. Has anyone got any advice?

If you're unsure of the value Hun, dont guesstimate thats all I can say.
There are so many times that we think a food is "safe" only to be taken unawares by its value.

Sorry babe but nothing is accidental when you are on this plan and you say you cann't be bothered to look up one thing? well one thing will lead to two things and then three and before you know it you will be wondering why the scales aren't going in the right direction anymore. As has already been said, if you are unsure about a food item, don't eat it, end of matter, and you must look up the syns in food BEFORE you eat it. Try doing a meal plan for the week, that way all your food will be accounted for and treats etc built in for using your syns. You will know exactly where you are then without doubt hanging over you. xx

Another thing you may find useful is to buy some small sticky labels (i get mine from Lakeland) and when you go shopping write the syn value of the product on the label and stick it on. That way you don't have to go and look it up when you want to use it, and I often find that actually seeing the syn value in black and white on the packaging, maked me think twice about whether I want to eat it. Having done the plan for a while you won't need to put labels on everything, just those things you use less frequently like sauces, curry pastes etc or new items like your can of soup

I always write the syn values on packets and tins in the house too...drives Hubby up the wall, but then if Im going to be tempted, I would rather know before hand what Im about to shovel in! Lol

That's a good idea about putting labels with syns on things. I've been thinking of making my own list of syns of foods I eat regularly, as loads of the stuff in the food optimising book isn't what I buy anyway.

Thank you Brightonrose, that sounds like a brilliant idea. As I am new to all this I am trying to pick up as many tips as possible!!:)
