Hi there,

My hubby and I want to go to Rome for 4 days in July and then spend 2 - 3 days chilling out somewhere by the coast (but not too far from Rome as we will be flying back from there!) - any suggestions?

Many thanks x

It will be very hot. Wear a hat and sunglasses and take a bottle of water. Watch the beggers.

All my kids remember of their time in Rome is the beggers, and the intolerable heat. "What about St Pauls", I asked? "What, oh that church place", they answered!

Yeah factor 50 and I still got tanned!! Rome is lovely. Make sure you go visit the popes house and Piza and the Trevi fountain (although make sure you say NO to the guy who tries to sell you roses there - expensive!!)

The watermelon the street vendors have is great...it is all over the place!! and like 1 euro. yummy!!

oh!! the collosseum tooooooooo that was pretty cool!!

I forget how far away Florence is from Rome, but its soooooooooo nice. Go there!!!:D:D:D

So many gorgeous places to visit in Rome but in July it will be HOT and stiffling. Carry water with you and wear plenty of sun cream. I love the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Forum and Colisseum, Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and an open top bus tour of the city is fab, especially if you have lovely weather. I think Rome is about an hour from the sea. You could easily stay in Sorrento which is about a 3 hour journey south of Rome which is beautiful. I think the nearest port to Rome and about an hour away is Civitavecchia. Have fun. I adore Italy; I visit every year!! :D

Lucky you - Rome is lovely.

As others have said it will be HOT HOT HOT - all the better to enjoy the great ice cream though!!

Have a great time :D

Lucky you! Rome is fab - I've spent several months there. I agree you should watch out for the beggars- swarms of little kids and they can pick your pockets soon as look at you! A fave trick is for one of them to hold a piece of paper or something up to your face while another picks your pocket. Steer clear of the train station area at night as it is full of dodgy characters! And the Villa Borghese as you are likely to be approached by a prostitute (most of whom are transvestites!) In addition to the places mentioned in other posts you have to go to the catacombs where they have a whole room decorated with cappucin monks' skeletons! Spooky. And the sistine chapel ceiling has to be seen to be believed.... I'd bin the beach idea and go to Florence! 3 hours away - and also a wonderful place. ............
Have a lovely holiday

lucky you
