Hungry For Life
On my way home from Asda this evening, I saw a man fussing over a cat he thought had been hit by a car. The cat had run up a wall/embankment thingy, after trying to cross a busy road...But now it wasn't moving at all and something was wrong, although there was no blood to be seen.

The man had sent for the RSPCA but had been waiting ages, so I joined him. We ended up with a box from Asda and my boyfriend coming to help. The cat looked a little perkier but still odd.

Eventually we got bored with being on the cold and increasingly dark road-side. We asked the man back to our house and told the RSPCA where to find us. My boyfriend (cat whisperer extraordinaire) decided to put the cat in the box to transport it. We were scared it was injured but it had started moving more, so he lifted it gently...Then smiled.

The cat was pregnant fit to burst. No injuries but a HUGE belly that was wriggling a bit! Don't know WHY we didn't see that before then! We got her home and she started purring in our warm house, away from all the traffic. She looked a lot better.

Eventually the RSPCA arrived and took the Mummy cat away. She had a nice red collar but wasn't chipped. They will leave a notice where we found her though, so hopefully the owners will see it. The RSPCA guy gasped at the size of her, predicting "about 20 kittens by tomorrow" in an "is he joking or not?" way.

Awww. The guy who originally found her teared up a bit when she left. Bless him, he was really sweet (and as camp as Christmas).

Awwwwwwww!!!! Kittens!!! Nice story. Hope the cat's owner finds her and the story has a happy ending.

I hope so too. I forgot to mention how badly the cat had been trembling. Maybe the dash over the road had started her labour, or given her a big contraction?

We couldn't have left her there but I hope she is found by the people who had clearly been looking after her.

She wouldn't have chosen to have her kittens there - they like to go somewhere quiet and where they can't be disturbed usually. Maybe it's her first litter and the first contractions took her by surprise! At least the RSPCA have her and she can have her kittens safely...but it's a shame she's not in familiar homely surroundings.

Awww Just goes to show what lovely people you are!

How many kittens can a cat have???

We're just suckers! Heh.

A cat can have 5 to 9 kittens, according to sites on Google. She was enormously pregnant but 20 was his little joke I suspect. :D

This picture is what my cat looked like when he was a kitten...times lots!!

Aren't they!!! I googled and found that pic and did lots of squealing... OH (from other side of sofa) said "you're looking at kittens aren't you!"

LOL!

We've been without a cat for nearly 2 years now, and I'm pining! OH is being very resistant, but then I think,,,,,, if it lived as long as our last ones I would be nearly 80 when it died and it would break my heart.

I like the cut of your jib Judi...I'm kind of assuming I'll be dead long before 80!:angel09:
If you wanted you could probably foster cats for the RSPCA, whilst they looked for owners. Some older cats need homes too but then you'd have them dying even sooner!

I won the "we don't need a kitten" argument by finding Stouffer in a hedge, four days after Christmas Day. He was so young, weak, and full of fleas, that my OH couldn't argue, without looking like Ming The Merciless.
