Anyone had an allergic reaction?

Hi all
Has anyone else found that they have developed itchy skin since taking exante? I noticed it last week and thought it might be part of detoxing with all the water I'm drinking but it doesn't seem to be stopping. Just wondered if this is a common side effect or if I'm allergic to something in the packs. I didn't have anything like it when I did CD last year.

No, I have not had anything, and these packs are not supposed to have any of the nasty stuff like sweeteners or preservatives, it is supposed to be much more natural. You might be better emailing Exante about it as they should have a lot more feedback about that sort of thing I would imagine.

Crumbs - I've been 'googling' creeping/odd feeling skin today! I've been on Exante for a few days. I feel as if my skin is tingling

Could be lactose intolerance. I'm a bit intolerant and and itchy skin is one of my symptoms. Most VLCDs contain tons of diary and I've definately had itchy skin on LL but it hasn't been bad enough to make me give up the diet.

You could try cutting out one of the types of products (ie shakes) for a few days each and see if there is any difference between them. Then look at the ingredients to see if there's a likley culprit for an alergic reaction.

Otherwise just take an antihistamine, they kill most mild allergic reactions pretty well.

I've definetely had drier skin. My scalp seems to have become dry and at one point I seemed to have dandruff which I've never had before. I thought it might be the shampoo I was using so changed a number of times but it hasn't gone away completely.

I hadn't really thought about it being because I was on Exante TS but now you've mentioned itchy skin etc perhaps it is.

Must say though I feel much better in every other way and my nails seem to have improved enormously so not all bad.

Dry skin is pretty standard on a VLCD, I've gone through tons of hand cream.

Your nails improving probably means that you don't get enough calcium and/or vitamin D in your normal diet and on Exante you are getting the right amount. Nails are a pretty good indicator of calcium intake.

Hi SW and Mumbles (Julie, too) --

Good nails are also related to higher protein intake -- that is why consuming Jelly is good for your nails. I did LL last year and had some Lactose related side effects, as well. Not enough to not finish Foundation, but enough so that I looked for a soy based Sole Source.

I am now using Cambridge Diet Food for Life from the US and it is soy based. (I gained back about 2 of the 5 stone I lost last year.) I still have dry skin, but I always do this time of year -- but I feel much better and have had much less wind and other related ills.

MM - how did you get hold of the US Cambridge products? I would love to get soy based products but I know there are problems importing food from the US and the sites I've seen won't deliver to the UK as the nutritional regulations are different. They also have a much bigger range of flavours in the US, even in the soya range. I've actually been thinking about trying to make my own soya VLCD products but that would involve effort and I'm not sure I can be bothered.

Hi SW,

I am a American who is over here with the visiting forces, so we have an American mailing address and the US Gov't ships our mail from New York to here in the UK. So, I can order online and have it shipped to my APO address.

Surely, there is a UK soy based product. Maybe through a Health Food store?

MM - Thanks for this, the problem is that all the soy stuff in the UK seems to shakes which are my least favourite part of a VLCD plus I just don't find them as filling as the soups and bars. I know CD does a few diary free shakes and one soup but not in flavours that appeal to me. Never mind I am coping on LL and I can alwys revert to my idea of making my own, mayber there's a mraket out there and I could become a soya-diet millionaire!
